Just read in Express this morning that De Profundis will be playing in Bangalore and Chennai this month - no details though..I guess they are a prog/doom metal who opened for Maiden last time around.

^This is enough consolation for the cancelled Slayer gig. Besides I've already seen Slayer twice. Can't wait to see Katatonia and Enslaved. This is awesome!!!

Since it is in Pune, I will probably check it out but I am fan of neither Meshuggah or Enslaved (haven't listened to much of their stuff but have heard Meshuggah and I don't know what all the fuss is about)

Katatonia might be worth a try although doom/goth isn't really my type of metal, they should club together Bloodbath, Opeth and Katatonia in a show (as they have common members anyway!)

Guys the following bands are headlining in Goa at the India Music Conference:

Cynic - USA
Hacride - France
Leaves Eyes- Germany
Cyanide Serenity - UK

There are many local metal bands also performing during this 4 day music festival! Goa + Metal is a fantastic idea! It's raining metal bands this year!

^lol, yep

so when is this Goa fest ?
Cynic are rated by most although I do prefer Atheist in the jazzy/prog death metal stakes. I have read good things abt Hacride as well but haven't listened to any of their music.

Btw Sodom will have a new album out in November as will Onslaught (for any fellow thrash fans)

@Amp, Encyclopaedia Metallum: The Metal Archives for info on any (or any obscure band) or do a wikipedia search - most major stuff will be there - and updated too.

Amp I know you dig symphonic metal. Give Leaves' Eyes a listen, I'm sure you'll like it.

Also check out Enslaved's album called Vertebrae. It's a beautiful fusion of black metal, progressive rock and Pink Floydesque interludes.

@Abhay

Let's catch up before the Enslaved gig in Pune.

Guys a little bird told me that there are plans for a Slayer and Iron Maiden gig in Mumbai during early 2011. However, don't get your hopes up too high till it's confirmed. I'll keep you folks updated.

^Enslaved's album description just strongly reminded me of them. Album pick?
The Mantle or Ashes Against the Grain., just hauntingly sad and beautiful music.

Guys I have been listening to two brilliant albums:

1. Kold by Solstafir

If Jim Morrison formed a metal band, the end result would be very similar to Solstafir's sound. They have a post metal sound which is influenced by Fields of the Nephilim and Doors. Very unique and original music.

2. Axioma Ethica Odini by Enslaved

Brilliant, triumphant and exhilarating are words that come mind when I think of Axioma Ethica Odini. For the past 5 years or so, metal had been stuck in a rut. With every other band sounding the same. However there have been a few bands which are constantly evolving and pushing beyond genre constraints. Enslaved are one of those bands. This album is quite complex and will take a few listens. With every listen you will notice a new riff or a new melody. After about 4-5 listens you will mentally piece everything together and that's when you realise what a phenomenal work of art this is.This is a thinking man's black metal band. All you need is good headphones and an open mind. Metal is exciting again!!!

You're right. Some members are Norwegian. I like early Theatre of Tragedy much better actually(same vocalist).
