Didn't know about Riverside. Will check them, thanks for the recommendation. Regarding Blind Guardian, I used to listen them during my college days. I guess you meant Tokyo Tales, right?

Yes the same band. I have listened to all of their stuff. Their earlier stuff is awesome. Gruff vocals, extremely fast playing and very melodious compositions.

Earlier works include Somewhere Far Beyond and Nightfall in Middle Earth. Those 2 albums are worth a listen.

Here is one accoustic from Somehwhere Far beyond.

As regards to Riverside, their debut album "Out of Myself" makes a very good listen. And their sound has only improved with time. In fact in of their live albums they play tribute to Floyd by playing Shine on your crazy diamond parts. (Look for Back to the River)

The Bards are just amazing. Not much of a fan as some of the songs sound a bit too harsh for me.

Their live performances of Valhalla and Bard Song are just mindblowing. Some of the best crowd participation songs of all time!

Re: The Heavy Metal & Rock Thread

Not exactly rock music but the Gipsy Kings (Andre Reyes) performed at NCPA Mumbai last night and I was able to catch a close glimpse of them. Took my tween along and she quickly warmed up to them.

All of the old favourites were there in a power-packed 90 minute set. “Bombaleo”, “Un Amor”, “Djobi Djoba” and of course their biggest hit “Volare”. Encore was their Spanish cover of Hotel California. The 5-guitar attack (3 flamenco rhythm, 2 lead) plus a superb rhythm section (bass, drums, congas and keyboards) made for a great experience even if the sound was a bit too muddied at times.

Some pics I managed to take:

"Fall of the Peace Makers" song performed by Molly Hatchet. I like this song so much to the extent, I wish someone to play this song in my Funeral when that happens. Just go through the beautiful lyrics and the awesome guitar solos, you will know why I like this one a lot. Enjoy.

"Meat Loaf", perhaps the only singer in the world, who would sing like his life is depended on that song.

On a serious note, his vocals are real good and his songs written by Jim Steinman are no less than Rock Classics. Enjoy.

Glam-Rock/Glam-Metal would never be the same without inputs of the legendary rock band, Kiss.

Well, this Black Diamond song was was originally recorded in 1974 and this live one from 1975. One of my top favourite bands. Enjoy.

Thanks for this. Have always been intrigued by the band's album covers but never gave them a listen. This song is just great!

And Black Diamond is a personal favourite of mine as well. Though i couldnt care much for the ending which drags on.

Actually discovered the song from a cover

If you've got some loose change lying around and are a collector of rock memorabilia here's an opportunity:

Gilmour's 120 guitars come up for auction:

Re: The Heavy Metal & Rock Thread

Unashamedly called "Rock Free Concert" from Crossroads this kid plays blues riffs that would equal any blues virtuoso.

Blues isn't about tearing your guitar apart through riffs but bringing in a subtle melody too.

Re: The Heavy Metal & Rock Thread

Arguably the most difficult riff during Blackmore's stint with Deep Purple was "Lazy". Blackmore plays the riffs only on Machinehead and not on any live version.

This 3 piece street band plays a cover of Lazy with cars driving in the background and a kid running through them with an accuracy only seen on the original album.

Skip to 3.48 to see him going at the riffs without a single false note and a repeat towards the end. Good vocals too.

The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band

This is a book written by Motley Crue members and NYT writer Neil Strauss.
It has now been released on Netflix as a movie.
I was surprised with the cameos by "Diamond" Dave - David Lee Roth & the Prince of darkness himself - Ozzy.

Source: Book
Source: Movie

And the obvious disclaimer - Not suitable for kids. Its about a rock band so nudity abounds.

PS - Ramsay Bolton of the Game Of Thrones plays Mick Mars.
