Super! Do make sure that they can get shade at all times.

pyrodrive, obviously this is not a nesting couple (fingers crossed!) so they don't need nest boxes, but should they have some boxed area to escape too? I've forgotten.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

A brief intro to our loved family members - But firstly I'd like to state that my family are strictly against buying pets. We like to adopt, mostly directly off the streets. Hence 3/4 pets that you'll see below were acquired from the streets.

1) Simbha - He was our first pet when we lived in an apartment on the ground floor. Just walked into the entrance one day and hid near the electricity meters. My twin sis and I were just fifth graders and took a liking to him. Mom agreed to keep him. Fast forward several years later, we moved with him to our new bungalow and he lived a good total of 14 years. Mom sobbed the day he passed and still does whenever she remembers him.

2) Toby - Sis and Mom picked up this dude from the fish market. Mom spotted him and instantly fell in love with that golden-brown color. The poor guy was a malnourished kitten back then and she did so much to make him the fatty he is today. And goodness, he is one hell of a Mama's Boy. They both cannot do without each other.

3) Ricky - Someone had abandoned 2 sibling pups a few meters from our house. Male & Female. Unfortunately we could keep only one so we kept the male and sent the female away to the Animal Rescue Centre. He was a naughty one back then and always got into tussles with Simbha. And Simbha wouldn't tolerate his nonsense
P.S. - He loved to go on drives in our M800 with mom and now does in her new Tiago.

4) Ember - The only female pet in our home. She was gifted to us by our Vet. He had a Persian litter and couldn't keep all so he just gave her away. We are not into breeding, hence got her neutered when she was of age (the others were too).
This little devil hates staying in the house and is in the garden all day, looking at the birds and butterflies.

My Lhasa Apso...

Just loves long walks in the jungles or trekking.

One main purpose to buy a 7 seater was to give him space...and now he just loves it. Out of total drive time of 7 hours in highway, he sleeps away half the time, and othe half lazing around!

Here's Miso on her (approximately) 3-month birthday. We adopted her after she was rescued off the streets.
She's quite the poser, and absolutely loves car rides!

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

These are my kids Lucy (female with fair coat) and Logan (male with dark coat). They are a couple, though they are yet to mate with each other. I plan to get them to mate once only, and when I have a litter I shall get them neutered definitely. Lucy is 25 months old and Logan is 27. I adopted them 3 months ago from a fellow who is leaving for a life in the western world, and his parents could not have handled these kids. Their 2nd birthdays were celebrated here with me, and I had made kheer for them

Lucky me as I have moved to Manali last year and these kids are perfect company for long hikes and fast running. I took them for a 21 kilometre run once on an empty road towards the top of a local hill here, and plan to raise it to around 50 kilometres once the monsoons end. In the photo where these kids are standing besides me, one can see my clothes are 100% drenched in sweat I am also looking forward to their first snow experience here in the winters, this breed is the happiest in the snow!

No, budgies do not use boxes or pots for roosting or hiding, unlike lovebirds. So no need to put up boxes.

You can get a dog nail cutter. Most good pet shops will sell them. Don't use scissors or human nail cutters.

True, but I don't recommend DIY without experience. You need to know how much one can safely remove. Take a vet's guidance, at least the first time. Including on whether it is actually necessary. As I said before, yes, dogs scratch, but they need to be able to.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

These are my 3 Persian cats Candy, Shadow and Rocky. All 3 very distinctive and have their own behaviour. All 3 very loving and affectionate. We had a regular cat earlier but he just vanished one day all of a sudden. But these cat's hate to leave home, which we obviously love.

As a pet lover, your post reminded me of an instance that recently occurred in my household. We were petsitting a hamster for a friend. We put the cage, on a table in the living room, the hamster was fed well, with water available all the time.

Our Great Dane used to sit by the cage for hours and watch the hamster do its thing. In a week the hamster died. We were told that the stress of being under the watchful eyes of what would seem like a predator, could be a likely cause of a heart attack. This when our Great Dane is actually scared of a fluttering piece of paper.

I think it would help if the cat is out of sight of the birdies.

Re: Team-BHPians and their Pets

We adopted an Indian cat Oct 20, during lockdown when my daughter was fed up of not being able to play with friends/go to school etc. she was adamant that we get a cat & after much delaying one weekend we had to get one without an option.

She’s named her “Kitty”, whose an extremely caring & well mannered cat who loves to be around the family & wants her own chair.

Some pics now.
