The supply is from the Corporation water authority. The usage will not be continuous and will be mainly during our visits on Summer holidays for 2 months and about every 2 months for about 2-3 days, max a week at times.
?
My advise: Don't go for any water purifier. Just use canned/ bottled water and be happy. Water purifiers can't be left unused for long time and use only whenever you want. They aren't electric kettles. The idle times are detrimental to the filters. You will end up "maintaining / restoring" it more frequently than using it.

Re: Recommended water purifier?

Went with THIS one. Essentially, they claim to do what an RO does without it but do not speak of before and after TDS.

Some numbers:
Inlet TDS = 630
Outlet TDS = 330
Water wastage = 1 : 1
Service = Good so far

Re: Recommended water purifier?

In this era of water purifiers on subscription, no need to purchase!. Just subscribe and pay as you use every month without bothering about maintenance, AMC, filter change, motor etc.

I was not aware of this and did a google search. I see livpure offering this. I also saw drinkprime but never heard about them before. Is this something all major brands are offering now?

Can you elaborate on this? We have never had a water filter at home but the conversation has now started. I always thought that corporation supplied water + boiling was good enough but maybe I am mistaken?

Question is, do we need a water filter at all and if yes, what kind?

Re: Recommended water purifier?

I am using LG UV filter that also comes with UF and a hard metal filter. I believe it only works with input TDS of less than 200. Because there is no RO, there is no water wastage. I strongly believe it is important to control quality of drinking water.

1. Test the corporation water per IS10500 for minerals and coliform. If any toxic minerals or coliform is above limits, straight away go for RO/UV.
2. If within limits, boil, cool, quickly fill in air tight bottles like Tupperware or similar, use as needed. While filling, leave 5% of bottom portion out to avoid suspended solids.

Simple and sure steps.

Any doubt on the above, please ask.

1. Nano filter is also a filter. It can't do what RO does.
2. As it is a filter, there should be NIL wastage, as all water must essentially pass through the 'filter'.
3. A TDS of 330 at outlet assures nothing, unless it is tested for all mineral elements and coliforms.

Any Q, please ask.

Where do you get the water tested? Are there any specific labs?

For say in B'lore, Could you please suggest, some labs?

I don't know much about Bengaluru. Just googled and found this. You may call them for details...

In Bangalore, Shriram labs in Whitefield used to test water 10 years ago. They are proper institute with full suite of services and mainly deal with large scale industries and companies. Not sure now but if you are on that part of Bangalore give a try.

Aquaguardᴿ Select Classic+ Water Purifier
This turned out be a horrible ownership experience. I bought it directly from Eureka Forbes website. When the installer came to install it, he found that the pipes were connected incorrectly inside. It was highly irritating that the QC at Eureka Forbes was this bad. So the technician had to reassemble the whole system to correct it. I also noticed that the build quality of the item was way flimsy compared to my older equipment from the same company. They have done plenty of cost cutting.

Who really wants to see their new water purifier like this?

Recommended water purifier?-pxl_20220308_094744685.mp.jpg

Within 4 months, it stopped working. It kept beeping instead. After logging back to back 3 service tickets, one service guy finally came and said it was just loose connection. It worked for 1 day and was back to the same problem.

So we kept boiling water for drinking instead, and I didn't call the service for a while. One, it takes too many calls to get them show up. Second, I am not always in Bangalore, so I have to time it exactly when I am here. Finally called them again, and managed to get the service guy. First time he replaced the UV tube, and left. It worked for 4 hours before dying. Another time he replaced the PCB, it worked for 10 days with that before dying.

Now, we are back to boiling water for drinking needs. I am going to throw this piece of junk, and buy some other brand of purifier. It is within warranty, but I don't want deal with them anymore.

Eureka Forbes used to be a great product company. Now they are selling low quality products, and their service is also horrible. I am done with them.

Try ZeroB UV purifiers if you do not need RO .

https://www.zerobonline.com/product-...ter-purifiers/

Their product is robust. And their service is excellent as well. We are using the RO model for 4+ years and zero breakdown. We replaced all the filters as a preventive maintenance and it cost around 5K including taxes.
