Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

JioStar makes official entry. If you update your Disney Hotstar app today it is updated with a new name and icon. JioCinema also redirects to this app.

HBO and IPL are back home
I hope the clutter is reduced over time. I don't want a plethora of random soaps and serials on home page.

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

I didn't see a recommendation for The Recruit on Netflix so putting it out there. I am onto the second season now. The series is not to be confused with a similar-name movie. This one is a thriller with decent doses of comedy. Also, season 2 is better than season 1, so far.

Premise - Owen Hendricks a newly recruited lawyer for the CIA. He gets thrown into troublesome situations more often than he'd like because of his desire to ''go out there and do something''. He then needs to talk his way out of them - all this while dealing with real spies, terrorists, heartbreak, etc. Great photography and locations- Prague, DC, Seoul etc.

Prime Target on Apple TV+

A spy thriller based on surveillance of academics working on certain mathematics theories. Pretty interesting and well shot.

Watched 'Alex Rider' on Prime. Its a British Spy series about a teenager who works for Secret Services. Its a very under-rated show. Surprised it hasn't gotten that popular. Overall its a pretty good show which keeps your attention. Pace is neither too fast nor slow & most episodes are roughly around 45mins. Its a must watch if you like the genre. Found Season 2 & 3 better among the 3.

Midnight Mass on Netflix

Rating - 1/5

I have somehow managed to scrape through 4 episodes of the show and I think the only thing more boring and rottener than the island people in the show is the storyline. Mike Flanagan has written and directed all the episodes in this so-called drama and has absolutely wasted all the good points he gained in Hill house and Bly manor.

Just 1 star for the only saving grace in this series - Hamish Linklater.

The 9th season sounded very odd to me, do not know whether I can continue.

I think someone had quoted in this thread that it is available in Apple TV . I don’t remember whether it was The Agency or The Bureau though

Apple Cider Vinegar 2025

The story of Belle Gibson, the Australian influencer who falsely claimed to have cured her brain cancer through alternative remedies. Inspired by Beau Donnelly and Nick Toscano's book, The Woman Who Fooled The World. This is it!!! After a long time, I have seen a series that has had me by hook, line and sinker.

Tend to agree on the rating. The script is the true winner though. Simply outstanding narrative weaving between multiple back stories without losing the plot.
Very meticulous work.

Jaideep's mastery of the body language is also very humane. No parkour fakery and heroism for the sake of it.

Great stuff.

Another weekend watch was Reacher season 3. Only 3 Episodes are out. Typical Reacher style repeats. Trouble just follows him from scene 1. No build up of his story so far. No glimpse of any mundane life. Nopes. He wakes up, gets in trouble and spends a full season getting out of it. Net-net: worth watching.

One thing to note- I've always hated the cliché'd line - "in an investigation, details matter". I'd hated it by end of S2. Gladly, that line hasn't made it to S3 yet.

Yeah I liked it too. There is also now a 2-part documentary on the same story which includes that ill-advised 60 Minutes interview that led to Gibson's downfall. Fascinating story, yet to watch the docu but have added it to my watch list.

For those who like Scandinavian slow burn stuff, a couple of reccos I found decent:
  • The Are Murders- set in a remote ski resort town in Sweden featuring a female detective who moves there from Stockholm to get away from some personal drama and qwuickly finds herself enveloped in the action
  • The Breakthrough: a seemingly simple murder mystery drags on for years till an eccentric DNA scientist gets involved.

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Zero Day on Netflix is a mini series starring Rober DeNiro. Watch if you -

- like to see US political thrillers
- scenes of Washington and New York in wide-angle
- Robert DeNiro in every other scene to the exclusion of many others (they were probably trying to justify his fee)
- cracker of a last episode

Don't watch if you -
- Can't take poor editing
- A flaccid middle
- Cliched themes (tech titans becoming all powerful, cyber-warfare, corruption at the highest levels, power grab as the sole motive, etc.)

YMMV!

Re: The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)

Spent the weekend glued to the screen because, well, social plans? Overrated. Here’s what I binged:

Dabba Cartel – Netflix – 3/5
Solid performances, intriguing story, but it felt like a well-cooked dish missing just a pinch of salt. Good, but could’ve been Michelin-star level with a little more finesse.

Suzhal - The Vortex S2 (Tamil) – Prime Video – 2/5
Season 1 was a masterpiece; Season 2 feels like they lost the plot—literally. The screenplay, direction, and all the basics took a nosedive. Stretched it longer than a WhatsApp goodbye.

Love Under Construction (Malayalam) – JioHotstar – 4/5
A light, breezy watch that felt like opening a window after bingeing on dark, intense thrillers. Short episodes, great performances, and a clean, feel-good vibe—perfect for a wholesome family weekend watch.
