Absolutely the best idlis in Bangalore. Infact recently there was a idly competition of sorts and Brahmin's was first. SLV was in top 3 as well. Those who haven't tried that, are missing something in my opinion.

Not as good anymore. Nandini is the definitive word these days when it comes to Andhra food.

Great Chettinad food. Haven't been there in a while but used to be very very popular and crowded till late in the night.

Also for thai there is Bamboo shoots Museum Inn hotel @ Museum road.

Very good starters but didn't find the main course very good. It was very oily. As an aside it seems to be frequented by a bunch of aunties as a kitty party joint.

Bamboo shoots Thai food has declined in quality or so I feel. Magnolia in Koramangala is much better. Infact, I love the red curry in Spiga.

If I remember correctly, it was more like "which place has the best Idly Vada & Coffee" competition. Idly is a serious business down south.

Sam,

Have you tried any of the famous joints (UD, Brahmin's cafe, Vidyarthi Bhavan, MTR, Kamat etc) for a sampling of local food when you come down to B'lore ?

For Conti stuff:
La Madeline ( Lavelle Rd) Deserts by painted platters there.
100ft on 100ft rd Indranagar
Fiorano's ( mentioned ) in Kormangala. The chaps have a good wine collection. Also have Valet Parking.
Cafe Y ( Langford Rd)

For Chineese:
China Pearl ( Kormangala ).
Mainland China (Church Street and Indranagar).
Silver Wok ( Richmond Town )
Wok With Chung ( Marathalli )

Indian:
Tandoor( MG rd)
Charcoal(Lavelle Rd)
Sahib, Sindh , Sultan (Forum)
Gufah( Jaynagar )
Inchara ( JP Nagar )

Mallu:
Three Storeys ( Lavelle Rd )
Coconut Groove ( Church Street and Marathalli )
Little Home ( Kormangala )
Kairali ( Madiwala )
Imperial ( All over the city ;-) )
Koshy's

Tamilian Cuisne ( Chettinad ):
Annachi (Indranagar)
Ponnusamy (Koramangala )

South Indian ( General )
Konark ( Residency Rd )
Kentucky Chicken Corner ( Adjacent to Ramanashree Comforts opp Kanteerava Stadium )
Veena Stores ( Malleswaram for idlis )
Udupi Sri Krishna Bhavan ( Kormangala )
Savaji's in Jaynagara for Kolhapuri food.
Woody's on Commercial Street and JP Nagar

BBQ:
Barbeque Nation ( 100ft rd Indranagar - great place great food cheap booze )

I feel 'Hyderabadi Biriyani' on Airport road is among the best for the same. They also have an outlet somewhere near MG Road. I feel the Family Pack option for takeaways is really worth it.

Their other branch is on Victoria Rd, before Lifestyle.

Indianas - junction of brigade and residency - burgers with the yummy home made mayonnaise.

You do know the legend about the mayo there, right?

For regular eat out/cheap Continental - Casa Piccola, everywhere, ie Jayanagar, Cunningham Rd, Indiranagar, Residency Rd, and I think there are a few more.

Sue's Kitchen is excellent, especially their buffet. They do not like me there though. Herbs and Spices in Whitefield is out of this world, and the one in Indiranagar is pretty good too. There is this Belgian waffle house in K'mangala that I keep meaning to visit for breakfast, but I never get up on time.

Chinese - Wan Ley, Aromas of China, there's this nice new place behind Pizza Hut on Cunningham Rd call Chi, then Shiok, Hot Wok, I hear Saigon is good for Thai and Vietnamese.

Windsor Pub is another really nice place. And yes, Eden Hut or whatever is still going strong, we've had a couple of fun incidents there. ;)

For desserts, Cakewalk, Sweet Chariot, Infinitea, Painted Platters, the Bowring kulfi place, CORNER HOUSE!!!

Man, I eat too much.

No, I'd love to. Normally, the annoying C3PO takes me around. I'll convince him to take me someplace to eat. Shouldn't be difficult.

Why has nobody mentioned Sunny's, at lavelle road. Impressive conti.

Another 2 more to the list.

100 Feet Boutique Res' and
Little Italy in IndiraNagar.

Owner's attitude problem and its exhorbitant rates beyond rational to visit as a regular affair. Also, speaking for myself as a vegetarian, the menu is extremely limited

VEGETARIAN!!!! I stay away from such places.

MTR is absolute crap. Their food isn't great and their attitude is horrible. Stupid waiters insist you sit NEXT to some stranger, shoulder to shoulder, even if the opposing sides are empty. To ensure more customers can find more place to sit. Of course if you are a minister/MLA, you get the royal HemaMalini treatment.

Sunny's is freakishly expensive, and named after a dead dog. That said, their food is quite nice, on the few occasions when I can afford it. Their desserts are worth a special mention. Attitude though, is a major problem. As are the annoying P3 types there. ;)

For all people in Electronics City, Malgudi has opened at E-city phase 2 opposite Semicon park.

It serves South indian food from karnataka, kerala, tamil nadu, also has north indian and little chinese.

Malgudi is the sister restaurant of "the dhaba" on ORR marthahalli.

Malgudi is also next to The Dhaba. There is a complex of restaurants there.
