re: A Guide: Eating out in Hyderabad/Secunderabad/Cyberabad

I had been to Green Park on Friday for Midnight buffet (SILVERWOOD+1)

The NV Menu consisted of

1, Haleem
2, Chicken Shorba
3, Kheema Dosa/Kheema Parahtha/Egg Parantha
4, Chicken Masala
5, Mutton and Chicken Biriyani and few deserts.

Haleem, Biriyani (both) tasted horrible and the chicken masala was even bad.

Rs 806 AI for two people. Will stay away of this joint for sure.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Been to chutneys on Saturday for Lunch and ordered 2 south Indian thali. (SILVERWOOD+1)

Was shocked to see that it was more like a gujju/Rajasthani thali, the vegetable curries tasting sweet. They ran out of the gongura chutney which was the only thing i liked.

Rs 320 for two people.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Been to Chef Inam on Saturday for Dinner and ordered Garlic pepper chicken steak with teriyaki sauce.

Rs 350 well spent. The steak was just awesome.

Will go there again and again and again.

I have always believed that Chutneys was set up to cater to non-local tastes, but that's perhaps just me. By the way, there are a few Rajasthani dishes that can be quite hot! I remember eating stuff like that at a Rajasthani wedding in Udaipur a few years back.

Regarding Gongura chutney, the best variety is the home-made one. The simple reason is that the chutney, especially the one prepared with green chillies (the tastier kind compared to the red chilly variety, which in itself is very tasty), needs to be consumed very quickly. While the red chilly variety can stay for a few days, it loses its taste very fast when kept for too long. Even the red chilly variety is very sensitive to the presence of even the slightest amount of water and can catch fungus pretty quickly. In restaurants one never knows for how long the chutney jar was kept uncovered. Lots of guests tend to not place the lids back after taking their chutneys/powders.

We prepare small quantities of Gongura chutney and consume it within 2-3 days (green chilly variety) or a week maximum (red chilly variety). If a hotel is running out of Gongura it's a good sign in quite a few ways (good demand or small quantities prepared or both).

Regards,
spadix

Do we still get Haleem at Hyderabad given that ID is over?

I went to Paradise on the day of ID but they said that they are not making it any more. Do let me know of some good place where you are still getting Haleem. I have some friends coming in the month of September who would like to taste it.

Quite surprising that both were bad as I love their Haleem and Biryani. Haleem is not the typical haleem that we get during Ramzan from outlets all over city but, is a bit more clinical and smooth but, tastes equally awesome

Andhra Meal without gunpowder and gongura chutney is incomplete. As Spadix said, its a good sign they ran out of it and perhaps indicates they make it fresh every now and then.

Also, as he rightly said best gongura chutney is made at home. My mom in our family circles is known as Chutney specialist and no kidding, she can make 100+ different types of chutneys each better than other including gongura

If you like Gongura Chutney, I suggest you visit Badichowdi and buy it from Joshi Masala's as he makes almost home-like.

+1. We make it regularly at home and it's way better than ones you get in hotels. Btw, even Blue Fox's Gongura Chutney is also very good.

Only 3-4 places that serve Haleem entire year.

1. Green Park, Midnight Buffet ( every single day)

2. Hotel Hampshire Midnight Buffet ( Call before to check if they serve that particular day)

3. Hotel Golconda ( Call before to check if they serve that particular day)

4. Their is a hotel in Tolichowi Food Court ( not able to recall the name) which serves every single day. Pretty decent

5. Cafe Rainbow, Abids. 365 days a year. But, its a small dirty irani cafe and would not recommend going there.

re: A Guide: Eating out in Hyderabad/Secunderabad/Cyberabad

Was doing some hyderabad 'darshan' (sight seeing) in the last few days.

My BIL and sister were in hyderabad so got a chance to visit some joints ,few worth a mention here

a) Over the flames

Poultry chicken pizza
Chicken lasagne
thyme scented chicken

This place is sure addictive due to the awesome quality of food.

Seems its catching up on popularity as there was 10 mins waiting here.

Total vfm as the bill amount was around 700 for 6 people

b) Utupura

Roasted prawns
Some chicken curry (had a crazy name )
Uppams
Chana masala

I used to be a regular to kairali in gachibowli but off late due to the shady ambience and declining quality was looking for an alternate place for kerela food and utupura fits the bill for sure..

c) Vacs bakery-jubilee hills road no 10

Definately upmarket ,do try the chicken continental burger here.(inr 60) and the margaretta pizza(inr 95)

d) Super star -Ramoji film city

you get access to this place when you do the star experience tour (inr 1200 per head)

The food spread here is nice and tastes great

re: A Guide: Eating out in Hyderabad/Secunderabad/Cyberabad

Daspalla in Jubille Hills.

Worked out to Rs 362.52 per person after deducting 10% discount and adding the following.
SRC 5%
SRT 3.09%
VAT 14.50%

The salads were nice. However the chicken salad had a slight menthol kind of taste in it.
The strawberry milkshake was very nice.

The soup looked very watery so did not have it.
The veg starters (2) were good.
The chicken starter was barely ok. The meat was too mushy.

The chicken biryani was acceptable.
The meat and chicken gravies were OILY. Floating in oil.
The sliced Fish in spring onions was the ONLY good non-veg dish here.

Pasta had a lot of tomato sauce/ ketchup in it.
The mushroom au gratin was good.

The deserts were quite good. There was this kheer kind of dish, green in color. I liked it.
The Khurbani ka Meetha was sweet and juicy.
An arabian sweet dish was good. But I don't think it was authentic anything.

Ice creams were generic strawberry and chocolate.

The vegetarians in the team were happy with the food.

Nothing spectacular about the food.
But a good place for a team outing.
The price is acceptable. The decor is good.

Service levels were top notch. No waiting or hunting for waiters.
Plates were cleared from the tables almost immediately.

Take a left from Tirumalgiri circle ( if you are coming from Tirumalgiri RTO) and this place is 50 meters ahead on your left.

Not a place to go with your family (specially in the evenings) as this place including Biriyani Darbar is infested by indecent group of people.

A friend of mine who is an architect has his office right opposite building and we have ordered Haleem during off-season a few times which we devoured in his office. It was pretty decent!

No clue how this restuarant looks from inside.
