Haven't seen 'Streetcar named Desire', but I preferred Ghulam to 'On the Waterfront'.

Movie as a whole or the performances of lead actors? I too liked Ghulam except for the too much to digest last fight. As a movie, Ghulam felt complete with the masala thrown in and On the Waterfront was straight to the point, no nonsense stuff.

I liked the movie as a whole. I found "On the waterfront" to be a little slow.

Watched 'Unknown' last night. The way the plot unravels will surprise audiences till the end. It is a very different type of movie. Good script and story line. There are dull moments but there are suprises on who is who at every other scene.

3.5/5

Dream of a Dream within a Dream.

Wow....... Though i had to dig my brain a little bit more than i usually do. This movie kept playing mind games on me. I loved the entire 2 hours and 29 minutes of this gripping movie.

I would rate it 10/10 for its concept and the kind of narration it had.

Di-caprio was at his best. I never heard about the director Christopher Nolan, but this kind of movie, its a directors dream.

3.5/5

I watched 'Unknown' this afternoon, and I must say its a nice film. The plot is different from your run of the mill thriller plots, and suspense is maintained quite smartly. Good acting by Liam Neeson, Diane Kruger and January Jones.

4/5 in my book.

Add The Prestige to that List. Awesome Movie.

One of my favourite directors. Love his style of storytelling.

Haven't seen Inception, but have seen most other Nolan movies. My ranking - I have posted it earlier also.

1 - Memento 5/5
2 - The Prestige 4.5/5
3 - Dark Knight 4/5
4 - Batman Begins 3.5/5
5 - Following 3.5/5
6 - Insomnia 3/5

And even Insomnia wasn't really bad.

Insomnia was his weakest movie so far ( but it was also his only movie where he and his brother didn't work on the script ). My favourite movie of his is 'Memento' followed by 'The Prestige' and then, 'The Dark Knight'. Although a great fan of Nolan, I feel 'Inception' is a little overrated. Waiting eagerly for next year's 'The Dark Knight Rises' .

I, for one, would be happy when Nolan stops making superhero movies.

Nolan has a special talent - movies like Memento, Prestige, Following are very special movies - not a lot of other directors could do movies like these. Whereas the average hack can do a decent superhero movie.

I am sure not many of you would have watched the latest Jim Carrey flick, 'I love you philip Morris'
Let me begin by saying that Jim Carrey is the best actor on earth. This movie will completely blow your mind. Do watch it if you get a chance.
You will love it.

I beg to differ - Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are no 'ordinary' superhero movies. To begin with, Batman is the only 'Superhero' I know of without any superpowers as such, and is quite vulnerable. The movies bring that out beautifully, together with his dark side.

Two big budget superhero movies with super effects coming soon - 'Thor' and 'The Green Lantern'.

re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Watched "The Hurt Locker"

Story is about a bomb squad who's primary job is to diffuse bombs in war struck Iraq. Pretty interesting concept for sure. The reason I liked this movie was because as usual in war movies. The entire movie ricochets with bullet sound. This war movie had the least firing if it can be said that.

Also, its shot in a documentry style and reminded me of another favorite movie " The Three Kings".

I am surprised to see an actor of Ralph Fiennes calibre in such a mediocre role, it was almost like a guest appearance. Not to mention length of Guy Pearce role.

However, I liked the maverick attitude of lead actor and he did a rather fine job. Sometimes his antics was a bit over the top but, man, every movie has the right to show something over the top as long as its digestable. It was quite in this movie.

But, going by script, acting and overall movie. I never could fathom how and why did it win 6 Oscars. I am not saying its a bad movie but, heck it was not that great also to deserve so many. Maybe 1 for direction or something would have been most ideal.

Couple of sequences of bomb being diffused and ambush by snipers was pretty intense. Liked that a lot

Overall, its a good movie. Period!

4/5
