re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

I actually liked "The Village", although the twist in the end was a bit hard to digest. Bryce Dallas Howard and Joaquin Phoenix were great in their roles. It was probably Shyamalan's last movie that i liked.

Found this movie just about decent and quite slow moving with a sense of secret in every individual and story is set in late 18th century ( going by their dressing) but, its not in real sense. Try deciphering that.

I was waiting with bated breathe for the twist that was warned to me here. Found that not that great as I already had an inkling of it from begining.

Night is there is a small cameo ( Reading a newspaper) with just his voice and a brief appearance of him via. a reflection.

What I didnt understand is why the heck did those Villagers have to go through it? I mean, whats the reason behind it?

2.5/5

The people who lived in the village had once been part of an organization working towards finding peaceful solutions to the worlds problems. They were funded by a wealthy man who was murdered but had left them all his money. So they decided to escape from the terrors of the world and ran away to a private reserve. The problem was that they knew one day the children would want to go out and explore so they created the "boogie man" to live in the woods and keep everyone in line.

re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Each of the elders in the Village had faced a lot of troubles when they were living in the cities. I don't remember the exact problems, but they are told somewhere in the movie. So, inorder to escape from all those things, the elders decided to create a perfect place where everyone would be good to each other and their kids would be brought up in an ideal environment where there is no evil. And in order to prevent their kids from leaving the Village, they create this creatures that don't let them enter the jungle.

Se7en

Watched Se7en yesterday starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman.

No great action sequences but leaves you tied to the seat with a good screen play. Never got bored. A good watch.

Rating: 4/5

Check out "Food Inc". Hard hitting stuff, makes us think about the food we are putting in our mouth everyday, and the dangers associated with moving towards a fast food culture like the U.S.

re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Watched many movies. Some absolute junk not worth writing about. Few watchable mentioned below

- Hangover.

Still the best humorous movie. Loved it all the way. Must have watched it like 10 times. The tiger in bathroom is hilarious.

5/5

- Tangled (2010)

A sweet animation movie. Good time pass. Visually and creatively very astounding. Animation lovers would love it.

5/5

- Tangled (2001)

A good movie that tries to surprise you. Succeeds a little. Watched it for Leigh Cook. Acting wise its a disappointment. Not bad as much as i thought at the starting. came out pretty good. An little above average movie for an off day.

3/5

- Heaven (2002)

What a great crime movie. Absolutely awesome. Its kinda under rated since i don't remember reading about this anywhere. Could be a little fast paced but that's ok. Must watch.

4.5/5

- My own private Idaho (1991)

Two of very good actors, Phoenix and Keanu Reeves embarks on a trip which is truly enthralling. watch it. Period.

5/5

- Downfall (2004)

Super War stuff. A must watch for war fans. Its about ending days of Hitler. Gripping. Where was this hidden all the while?

5/5

Been 7 years since I saw it, so memory is hazy. But I think it goes something like a lot of families in the community had suffered problems because of the 'modern' world - some losing a son to drug overdose, some one else having something else etc. So they try to create a society where time has stopped.

Can you name some comedy movies. I would like to see which i have missed.

Hangover has all the ingredients to make it hot fav- awesome vegas, great acting, great storyline, super funny characters, cool music, hot babes and generous dose of comedy and suspense thrown it.

I won't compare this to out and out comedy movies, but it holds it head high for sure.

I am excited about Hangover 2. Hope its a blinder like this one. But it has just 3 characters.
