I'm a big Star Wars fan but I can understand where you're coming from.

Funny incident during my university days:
Two friends - one a non-fan, was dragged to watch Episode II: Attack Of The Clones, by a huge Star Wars fan.

There is a scene in the movie where Yoda (the tiny green wise creature you see mouthing proverbs in Memes), has a fight scene with a bad biggie.

Yoda usually is a peaceful wise old man types character.

This scene, however, shows Yoda being very athletic & jumping around the baddie - this caused the non-fan to burst out laughing right in the middle of this intense action.
Needless to say, he got shouted down & had a lot of angry eyes staring at him.

Just watched Nocturnal Animals: Jake Gyllenhaal and Amy Adams.

What a well made movie; that's a brilliant script and good acting for you.

Watched Concussion (Will Smith) - it's about head injuries from professional football.

What a boring movie. So slow-paced that it'll put you to sleep. I wouldn't recommend this flick.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Watched three movies this past weekend.

Magnificent seven: Remake of the 1960 movie (which is itself a remake of the 1954 Akira Kurozawa movie). Very entertaining action flick.

The birth of a nation: It was a pleasant surprise. A fantastic movie and excellent storyline too. Its a shame it got embroiled in all the controversies, otherwise it would have been a frontrunner in the coming award season.

Inferno: Entertaining movie, but not as good as the previous two Robert langdon movies.

I found this movie fascinating. The movie has a great social message too, considering how many young Americans play football.

Watched this on TV over the weekend. Was playing on one of the english movie channels. Is quite a good watch for a leisurely weekend at home. Thak you for suggesting. I think i would like to watch more of this genre of movies as they are light hearted and can act as great stress busters.

Thanks for the recommendation, guys! Watched Hell or High Water - fantastic movie . Superb performances by all, very interesting / different story line and a nice small American town setting.

Rating 5 out of 5 stars.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Just watched 'Duel'. It is Steven Spielberg's first feature length movie, made when he was just 24 in 1971. Fantastic thriller and the suspenseful moments are awesome. The plot line shows every driver's worst nightmare. You'll think twice before going on the next solo drive. Just wow.

The movie is in Youtube. I dont know if the copyright has expired, so not sharing the link.

Watched Red 2 yesterday. Was a bit of a let down compared to the first. Thought they had in too many characters in too many places which sort of made it all very distracting. Nonetheless still a good movie.

We are Marshall! Damn, what a heart wrenching movie. Gets you right in the feels.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

I watched the "Bridge of Spies" last week. Take bow Tom Hanks! Superb acting by everyone in that movie combined with the plot [true story] and screenplay make it one of the best movies I've ever watched.

My all time favourite movies include Shawshank Redemption, Ocean's series.

Watched "To Be or Not To Be", the 1983 version.

Wonderful, light-hearted take on the Nazi-era world; this movie talks about when Poland is about to/has been invaded by Germany.

A general laugh-riot, something you can watch with family.

Over few months back I happened to watch Tom Hanks 'The Terminal' and I was blown over by the concept and simple story line and the movie would hold you onto seats. Tom Hanks is just brilliant in this movie and just can't imagine the movie without him.

I rate this movie 4/5.

Having seen the The Terminal, I wanted to see some off beat movie and specifically of Tom Hanks and watched Forrest Gump on Amazon Video last week and here I find a new fan in me for Tom Hanks. Movie is quite old, but its brilliant. I felt pace is bit lacking in some places and quite lengthy, but his acting and narrative kind of structure makes for the good watch. I rate this movie 4/5.

I personally found a common thing in these two movies that promise is a promise, however big or small and ought to be fulfilled.

Other Tom Hanks must watch movie recommendations welcome.

Bridge of Spies & the most recent Sully are wonderful Tom Hanks performances. In fact I was so drawn to his performance in Sully that I might end up watching it multiple times just for Tom Hanks portrayal of Captain Sullenberger! It is based on a true story as well and the direction by Clint Eastwood is very taught and gripping with emotions peppered in at the right places.
