Suzuki swift Car Stolen - 15-4-11 , Coimbatore

Hi

My friend used to park his suzuki swift car Lxi(Red) in NSR road, Coimbatore, opposite to his house on. On 16th April 2011 (saturday) the car was missing. The theft has happened some time between 2.30 to 4 AM, as the ATM watch man has noticed the car still parked untill 2.30 am.
The police has taken the FIR only today (monday).

The first question that came to my mind is, whether both the original keys are with him. Then we came to know that he has got only one key and the other one is still with the dealer (used cars dealer).

My question here is, whether it is possible to break open the car and drive it without the original Keys? Is there any possibility that the thieves could have used some technique to open it with some other keys?
As the incident has happened just two days before, i believe your responses could give us some clue on what action to be taken further.
Please advice.

regards
Madhan

As far as I know all cars made after 2007 come with immobilizer and Can't be started without the original keys. Someone from used car dealership is the culprit.

Do share the reg no. & VIN details. There are chances that the vehicle was towed to some remote area (since it has immobiliser) and left abandoned by the theif after his trials to get the engine cranked.
Also try to get the second key from the dealer. AFAIK to claim for insurance (in case of theft) both the original keys to be submitted (pls correct if I'm wrong)

Not sure if the LXI/LDI variants come with the immobilizer - without which it makes the job much easier

Our family friend's 2007 Estilo LXi has immobilizer. I suppose Swift should also have.

MadhanBabu, when was the car purchased from the used cars dealer and is the dealer a trusted one. Please provide more information regarding the circumstances.

From the information provided, if the car came with an immobiliser, then someone from/related-to the used car dealership is a likely culprit as DieselFan has already mentioned.

On a related note, there was an article in one of the papers in Bangalore, where a Civic was sold to several people by a used car sales person.
Modus Operandi : selling it to one person, stealing it and then reselling it.

Wish your friend luck in finding his ride.

AFAIK, ALL Maruthi cars, even the 800, come with immobilisers.

I suspect the dealer.

^^ C'on guys if the car has immobiliser does not mean it can not be stolen. If its like that then no car with immobiliser will be stolen. It just make it difficult to steal not impossible.

Can anyone explain how cars with immobilizer can be stolen. I was under the impression that cars with immobilizer cannot start without the original keys. What else precautions can we take to ensure the car is theft free.
Can we install a GPS tracking device to track the car if stolen?

Why did the dealer have the 2nd original key?! Hope your friend has the original papers in his name at least.

As per : Maruti Swift - Variants Petrol, every variant has iCATS (Immobilizer).

So, while opening doors would not be much of a problem, getting the engine started would be difficult.

While lodging the complaint, did you mention about the 2nd original key? Probably the cops could start their investigation from there.

Btw, this should be in the Street Experiences category, I guess.

Thats correct, to claim the insurance both the keys needs to be presented, otherwise they dont entertain the claim at all

I agree with you, thats a little weird, why did the dealer keep the second key ?

Maybe you should get behind the cops to nail the dealer and try to find out things

The dealer claims that the keys are still with the bank, in spite of completing all the formalities for closing the loan.

Meanwhile, can anyone be sure that in LXI swift, 2007 model has an immobilizer?
Is it not possible that the car be stolen away the car without the original keys?

As mentioned above - YES.

Well, the immobilizer only prevents the engine from firing up. The car can still be towed away.

What bank keeps keys of car for which it has provided a loan?! 2 of our cars have been on a loan and we have always had all the keys.

The dealer is taking you for a nice long ride!!

And yes, the Swift LXi does have an Immobilizer. See the attached link in my previous post.
