Longest Drives!

Very interesting to see what sort of mileage everybody manages to do here in India in one day. I don't have much experience in India yet.

My longest single day road trip ever was in Europe, driving a Volkswagen Passat Estate from Amsterdam, the Netherlands to Benidorm, Spain. Nearly 2100 kilometer. Took us about 20 hours. There were three of us and we worked a shift, took two hours driving, then two hours right front seat navigating and then two hours in the back resting. This was an estate so we put the rear seat down and a mattress on top so we could get sleep.

The longest day trip I did in the USA whilst living there was a drive from our home in Kansas City to Breckenridge in the Rocky Mountains, Colorado. About 700 miles, most of it across the very flat prairies of Kansas. We were in our 1998 Jeep Cherokee, wife + two of our kids. The kids tooks some turns driving as well, we made frequent short stops for coffee and food now and then, so it took us about 13-14 hours I believe.

My longest drive was in 1998 from Memphis, TN to Grand Canyon and then further to Las Vegas.
Distance -> 1580 miles i.e. 2543 kms one way.
No. of Drivers -> 3
Time take -> 24 hours non-stop (except loo breaks and food breaks) One way.
Vehicle -> Jeep Grand Cherokee

Thoroughly enjoyed the run on I40 which cuts across the United States horizontally and went through 5-6 states. Was a lot of fun.

Miss those days!

My longest drives were Maputo-Johannesburg or Maputo-Durban and vice versa. Both are in the 600 km range.

Of course those are on pretty good roads so normally times were in the region of 6 hours, including the border crossing.

We regularly do Toronto to Orlando about every year, about 2300km that we do over 2 days (14 hrs including breaks+10 hrs incl breaks). I do about 90% of the drive. Set the cruise controller at about 118km/hr (just below 120 else get flagged), nice relaxing drive, lots of scenic stretches. Between the to and fro and the local driving we do a total of about 3300-3500 km in the week that we go for.

The longest drive I have been a part of is Bangalore to Kathmandu. It is I believe around 2000+ kms. We stopped at Delhi and then proceeded from there. Oh yes, before I forget, I was just 4 years old

and the car was an ambassador modified like a station wagon

. My dad and driver drove all the way. I have driven from Bangalore to Sabarimala twice (about 700kms one way) and bangalore to Goa (685kms one way) many times.

Longest drive so far was Trivandrum-Chennai ( about 750kms ). Took about 12hrs in my i10. Longest drive without a break was Coimbatore to Chennai outskirts ( about 500kms) again in my i10.

Next plan is to do Chennai- Goa and then in a year Chennai-Ladak once I buy an SUV

Mine is COCHIN - SHIRDI - PUNE - MUMBAI - GOA - MANGALORE - COCHIN : 3200 Kms on my SWIFT twice in 2008 and 2009

Longest drive without a break?

Mine was from Bangalore to Mumbai a couple of years back in my Scorpio, distance of probably 1000kms or more, the only stops we took were for refuelling and toilet. We left Bangalore around 3:30 pm and reached home at 7 am, average speed of 100 kph.

My longest drives:
1. Kolkatta - Mumbai : 3 days, overnight stops, 2000kms in an Alto Lx.
2. Mumbai - Kolkatta : 4 days, overnight stops, 2100kms (took longer route), again in an Alto Lx.
3. Mumbai - Nathdwara : 1.5days, overnight stop at Ahmedabad, 850kms one-way in my Zen Lxi.
4. Mumbai - Daman : Several times

Looking forward to another long drive next week! Mumbai - Goa : 650kms one-way in my Figo Titanium Petrol!!

Mine was Pune to Goa and back. Twice, in 2008 (spring, March) and 2011 (core monsoon, August). Both times on a BIKE

The winding ghats are always ready to present some of the most magical and beautiful moments. Truly cherish those two trips.

One way it's around 550KMs and takes about 10hours with a break every hour or so to beat the stress/enjoy the scenery.

Srinagar-Amritsar-Delhi-Jaipur-Ahmedabad-Mumbai-Pune-Mangalore-Kasaragod-Thrissur
Total Distance Covered 8900 in 26 Days
Vehicle Xylo.

Longest drive in a day is from Hyderabad to Mysore about 720 Kms in my Punto in 2011.

Overall longest trip is 2241 kms from May 1st- 5th 2011. Hyderabad-Mysore-Coorg-Mysore-Bangalore-Tirupathi-Hyderabad with my wife, solo driving.
