My longest drives in a day

Chennai-Madurai-Trinelveli-Kanyakumari-Madurai-930 KMs in 14 hrs. Speed 40KMPH-170KMPH
Longest bike rides: Non stop Bangalore-Trichy rides. Fastest. 4hrs40 minutes with a tea break at Dharmapuri. Distance 341Kms. Slowest 6hrs35 minutes during a monsoon ride with soaking wet shirt and shivering hands throughout the ride that started at midnight from Bangalore, when I could hardly see anything other than the backlit speedo

I have done a couple of drives. the first gurgaon - jodhpur- gurgaon some 1370 kms in 31 hrs on my santro. that was for my friends wedding.

Also gurgaon - srinagar and back 4 times with 1050kms in min of 19hrs to max 26 hrs on my santro and fiesta.

The longest drive I've done is New Delhi to Bangalore in one stretch spanning 33hrs with a 6hrs break. After that I drove to Kanyakumari from Bangalore, then to Rameswaram, Pondy, Coimbatore and then returned to Bangalore.

I live in Bangalore and bought a neat SUV in Delhi and drove that around over this stretch about 8 to 9 months ago.

On car - Mumbai to Kochi about 1600 kms in my ANHC. Left Mumbai at 5 PM, reached bangalore by 6 AM (11 hours), took a 3 hour nap amidst the traffic!, left bangalore by 9 AM and reached kochi by about 5 PM (8 hours).
Total - 24 hours drive, with about 2-3 hours break.

While returning, left Kollam at about 7 PM, reached bangalore by 6 AM (via kochi! - bad decision, should have taken madurai route), continued to Hampi - via Chitradurga. encountered craters in the road!, and went up to hubli for night stay..reached hubli by 11 PM types. About 1100 kms in 28 hours including some 4-5 hours in Hampi.

Bike - 730 kms from Chitradurga to Kochi. Left early morning 3 AM, reached Kochi by 9 PM. On a kawasaki caliber . Non-stop, through bangalore-mysore-sathyamangalam-kovai route - Was beautiful.

However i guess anyone who has done a road trip to Leh would easily surpass all these timings!..We covered (rented qualis!) Manali to Leh in 2 days, with a stay at Sarchu!

Very much possible .If Bang-Mum can be easily done in under 12 hours in a Zen ,it shouldnt be big deal in a Cedia

Even KSRTC Volvo buses do this in close to 16 hours which includes about 2 hours of pit and pee stops .

My longest drive on a single day was around 740Kms. Chennai-Vijaywada-Hyderabad(Kukatpally). It took around 14 hours.

I was recently appointed to do a route/road feasibility survey for a HEAVY LOAD project cargo.

We started from Haldia port (WB) - Alipore - Bardhaman - Asansol - Sasaram - Varanasi (we took dip in holy Ganga at Dasaswamedh ghat & Assi ghat. Also had excellent darshans of Kashi Vishwanath) - Allahabad - Fatehpur - Kanpur - Jhansi - Shivpuri - Baran - Kota - Chittorgarh - Udaipur - Ahmadabad - Morvi - Samakhiyali - Anjar to Mundra port.

So if you see we came all the way from EAST COAST to WEST COAST of Indian coast line. Our vehicle was a 2009 Innova & we drove 3010 kms in total, including deviations taken during the above route.


This is also my first appearance on TBHP.

The longest drive (in one stretch) I have done in the US was between Chicago and Colorado Springs, which is about 1100 miles or about 1700 km. I did this in my Audi A4 with one overnight stay. Other than this, done a few week long trips totaling about 3000 miles (about 4800 km) in the US a couple of times.

In India, the longest I drive (in one stretch) I have done is between Pune and Bangalore (done this multiple times), which is about 900 km from my home to home. The cars used were 2002 Palio 1.2 and 2010 SX4-ZXi.

My longest drive was from Bangy to Goa. Though even the longest route is actually around 650 kms or so, just because we traveled during the flood times, we had to take numerous de-tours and after around 28 hours of journey including all breaks [including an overnight stay at Udupi], we reached Goa traveling around 930 kms ! But that's one drive which will remain in our hearts forever & ever. Other long journeys are frequent Bangy - Kottayam drives which usually is around 600 kms covered in 10-12 hours.

Longest drive that I've been on is Pune-Agra in 2003. My sister had picked up her Indica V2 Lsi (1.4) from Pune (Pandit Auto) & we had to drive it up to Agra as she'd been transferred there.

Took two days for the approximately 1300km journey, with a night halt at Mhow. The petrol Indica was unheard of those days due to pathetic sales, and wherever we stopped to refuel, the attendants came and gathered around to see the new Petrol Indica!

The longest since has been to Goa from Bangalore via Belgaum (NH4/NH4A) in 2009, which is around 670kms or so. Took approximately 14 hours in the Spark due to the pathetic road through the wildlife sanctuary just before crossing into Goa.

Mysore - Trivandrum (VIA Sulthan Bathery) -Approx 650 kms/ 16 hrs
Trivandrum - Dharmapuri ->Approx 600 kms/ 15 hrs
Trivandrum -Ooty -> Approx 500 kms/ 14 hrs
Trivandrum - Rameshwaram -> Approx 500 kms / 10hrs

1. Hyderabad to ooty via Bangalore about 890 Kms and 15 hrs ( 3.30 am to 6.30 Pm)

2. Hyderabad to Mumbai about 790 kms
3. Hyderabad to Shirdi about 600 kms
4. Hyderabad to narsapur and konaseema about 500 kms

I did Pune-Mysore and back during this February, however, with a break in the night.

I started from Pune at about 1 in the afternoon (considering Katraj), reached Dharwad by about 6:30-7:00, stayed in the night. I started at about 8 in the morning from Dharwad and reached Mysore at about 3:30 in the afternoon. Total distance 992 km.

On return journey, started from Mysore at about 7:00 in the morning, reached Hubli by 3:30. Started next morning at about 9:00 and reached home in Pune by about 4:00 in the afternoon. ANHC was excellent during the trip.

During the return journey, a sheet of plywood flew from a truck in front and hit my car's front, scratching the bumper and breaking the number plate. I was shocked for a moment, but did not lose control. I noticed the scratch and broken number plate when I stopped for filling petrol. During this trip, the meaning of Ceat's punchline was reinforced; "streets/highways are filled with idiots".

I'm planning another long drive towards the end of October; Mumbai-Goa-Mysore and Mysore-Mumbai. I know ANHC will be an excellent companion.

I have travelled several time between Pune and Bangalore/Mysore by Airavata Volvo. They take 16 hours for travel between Pune and Bangalore. The most convenient one for me starts from Swargate at around 3:30 and raches B'lore by about 7:00 next morning. The same bus reaches Mysore by about 10:30 or 11:00. The road between B'lore and Mysore is a shame!
