Erode to Chennai and Back to Erode - Almost 900kms in a day in my Elantra.

My longest drive was 1250 km from Mandla (MP) to Ludhiana (Punjab) in roughly 18hrs and that also in a 5 yrs old Boler Camper ( Double cabin). Since allotted tender work had finished and so we had to bring back the camper . We even had a stint at Kanha National Park before we started our journey . With a halt at Gwalior Fort. But the journey in the month of June with no AC and leaf spring suspension of Camper was really really tiring .

My longest drive was for a 3 hour business meeting and site visit- Done last year around feb 2010. Chennai to Tanjavur and back, Total odo distance done 1120 Kms. Left home at 530am, reached back at 9pm. Drive included chn to tnjvr to customer site back to tanjavur back to chennai.

Car was a swift Vxi.

It was the time when the realization of "being in shape" came to me- that after 12 hrs of driving, fatigue did not hit me much.

Other than that the usual Ooty to Chennai drives happen now and then.

My longest drive till date is the one that I undertook last night from Tambaram to Madurai-sheepishly admitting that I had covered 436 Kms in 9Hrs 35 minutes

. I was dead tired and had 6 stops till Ulundurpet which is about 186 Kms. Though there are umpteen SLEEPY bike rides of 300+KMs that I've done

, I've never once driven my cars when I was sleepy. The eyes were red enough to halt the oncoming traffic as they gave the traffic signals a good run for their money

My Swift VDi has been my trusted car for all of my trips.

Longest Distance: Chennai to Nagercoil in 10 hours ~ 720 kms

My other frequent trips include:

Chennai - Madurai (Very frequent) ~450 kms

Chennai - Munnar ~550 kms

Chennai - Theni ~ 470 kms

Chennai - Kodaikanal ~560 kms

Chennai - Rajakkad (Kerala) ~ 650 kms

Chennai - Rameswaram (frequent) ~ 600 kms

Chennai - Karaikkudi ~ 430 kms

Chennai - Karaikkudi - Pattukottai (round trip) ~ 700 kms

Chennai - Tanjore ~ 370 kms

Chennai - Cuddalore ~ 200 kms

Chennai - Yercaud ~ 350 kms
Chennai - Coimbatore (frequent) ~ 520 kms

Chennai - Trichy (frequent) ~ 320 kms

Chennai - Ooty ~ 550 kms

Chennai - Pondicherry (frequent) ~ 120 kms

Chennai - Bangalore ~ 350 kms

In all these trips I've put my Swift through the toughest obstacles. Torrential downpours, non-existent roads, extreme hot and cold weather conditions. 1 puncture of all these trips on my way too Ooty. No breakdowns of any sort whatsoever.

Once on a holiday with my friend at Pondicherry we were spending a weekend there. He drives a Beemer 530d and me on my trusted Swift. We had our cars parked in the rain for 2 days without using either cars. Third day, when we decided to leave, my Swift comes to life in the first crank. My friend's Beemer doesn't even crank. After pouring over the BMW manual for hours on end and with no possible clue as to what happened to the vehicle we were at the mercy of a local Hyundai dealer (since we were in the outskirts). He took an hour to analyse the problem and finally found out that water has crept into the battery. Spent the next hour cleaning it and getting a 407's battery to jump start the Beemer. That was the I wanted to kiss my Swift for the pleasure it gave me! 70 lacs and tears whereas 5 lacs and joy with reliability!

Did 4 trips Mumbai to Bangalore and back. Approx. 1000 Km one way.
First was in my Palio 1.2 Sport. Took me 12 Hrs with just 1 short stop. Needed around 15 hrs on the journey back a few of days later (too many stops!!).
Second was on my lancer. Went at night so took almost 15-16 hrs with the regular stops. 14 hrs on the way back a few weeks later.
The 3rd and 4th trip was in my Octavia. Don't remember taking it over 120 Km/h and it was with all the usual stop every couple of hours but it never took me more than 12-13 hrs!! Also never felt like I've driven almost 1000Km and not tiring at all... Seemed like the journey ended early!

Connecticut to Niagara Falls - ~450 miles
Connecticut to Washington D.C - ~350 miles
Connecticut to NYC/NJ numerous times - ~150 miles each

more long drives to come with the Fall season starting in New England

Bangalore Goa. 650 odd kilometers. 12 hours with lunch and tea stops in between

The most involving drive.

Have done a Bangalore - Shimoga - Bangalore and Bangalore - Davangere - Bangalore in a single day many times. Both would be around 600 kilometers (Round trip). Good, but no where close to Bangalore - Goa.

Bangalore - Chennai - Bangalore in a single day. Around 700 kilometers. Had to goto Chennai for a Visa Interview. A total of 9 hours (4.5 each). Few tea stops in between. The most boring of all

Leh - Pangong Tso - Leh - Srinagar - Chandigarh

Don't remember the exact distance but googled it and comes out to be approx 1467km.
Time --- 52.5 hours approx.
When --- July 2010

Didn't sleep at all but drivers were shuffled every 1.5hr.
We were four guys. Got caught amidst the stone-pelting in the valley and being outsiders, our vehicle was also attacked. Escaped unhurt, luckily. But the car got a few dents and a broken window. So, quashed all the plans of staying in a houseboat overnight and headed home.

My longest till date has been Gokarna-Bangalore in a single stretch. A single pee break and a snack break in Chitradurga.

A bit OT : Managed to extract 18.6kmpl doing excess of 100

Just completed Vizag-Kolkata.

Distance - 890 kms

Driving time - 11 hours 15 mins
Pit stops & lunch - 1 hour
Total trip time - 12 hours and 15 mins

My longest drive was Bangalore - Hubli last month in my Polo 1.2 TDI Highline. 400kms, 4 hours 45 mins drive time, 21.4 kmpl mileage, two stops totalling to 45 mins. 4 people in the car. 7 am dept from Yeshwantpur, Bangalore.
