Re: Mugging in Bangalore roads - be careful! EDIT: More Incidents reported

Guys, I know this is slightly OT but I would like to suggest something, it works in mostly all situations, possibly even mugging.

My car got vandalised few months back in my office (someone put a big scratch on the bonnet on evening). I wanted to be on the lookout, hence I got myself an on board wireless CCTV camera fixed inside my car, which works even in complete darkness. This device also runs on batteries and stores data on an MMC. I use this almost all the time for surveillance (even when the car is switched off and parked). Though the culprit did not have the guts to do it again, I'm at ease that I do not have to monitor my car, the camera does it for me

Now with respect to mugging, it comes in very handy wherein someone just jumps in front of your car and accuses you for hitting them. When a crowd builds up accusing you by default, you can always prove your innocence with the video footage.

Though no mugging incidents take place in my city there have been cases wherein bikers tend to cut off right in front of my car and accuse me and curse me for 'cutting into their path'. This really pisses me off and I challenge them to park their vehicles at the side of the road and 'I will prove who is right or wrong after we see the video footage on my screen which has been recorded by my camera and if you are interested, lets go to the police station after that'. Now this revelation shocks them (one biker's jaw even dropped) and they start being apologetic and admit their mistake and push off.

Well these are my two cents, I know we cant avoid situations but it is always best to play safe. If you want to look at the camera and screen, I have put it up here in my ownership thread

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-d...ml#post2171568

and a few pages before that you can see the vandalism incident which prompted me to buy this camera.

Agree with you on the broken nose point but self respect can take a bit hit, if the office laptop and all your cards are snatched from you and you office deduct the same's value from your salary. Anyways I am not doing it when I am going out with friends and family but this is my way too fool possible muggers.

I have been doing exactly that for the past 1 year. I also keep a knife hidden but easily accessible.

Googleman You are in a form today. Was just rolling on the floor reading all your replies.
Probably you are too excited regarding your transfer to pune.

Back on Topic, I purposefully used the same route today with the only difference that I was in my safari today, ready to turn to pulp any mugging attempt. But alas din't see anyone on the remote stretch today.
For the first time I missed the muggers so much

Excited to leave a sick place where "Earning" more than others is a crime

How did you expect to see the muggers again. Police are their biggest informers

Re: Mugging in Bangalore roads - be careful! EDIT: More Incidents reported

A friend of mine got mugged near agara lake, near lemon grass on the way towards BDA signal. Somewhere opposite to the greenview hospital, i guess

He wanted to take a leak and stopped, supposedly the area was well lit. He was about to get back after relieving and got hit on his head, helmet was in his hands so could not defend. His chain was snatched and the guys fled. When he complained he was told by the police that he should not go to such areas alone and relieve himself. They registered a complaint but that's it.

Friend got four stiches on his head but nothing dangerous.

Was discussing this with an auto guy whose rickshaw i use regularly, and he provided some details of the possible area where such guys stay (pretty near to the place where i stay ) and the police guys on the bike regularly comes there and collects their share, and if these thieves refuse they are threatened of being arrested. Some of them even work as auto drivers but keep watching possible prey. Not sure if this version is true.

And best part is there are many "strategic" dark spots around HSR, Sarjapur main road, bellandur when streetlights will never work.
