I showed a xerox of the older title with the lien and my insurance policy for 2 years for the customs officer to be convinced.

I still had to pay a penalty for not obtaining prior permission to import under TR.

Under TR you donot have the 3 year limit on age of the vehicle. That limit is only for direct import.

And yes no transfer is possible for 2 years . stamped on RC book and Passport.

Hope this helps

PHEW!!

well I dunno how but the previous owner managed to get the bike in 2006 with him. Maybe thaz why he paid such high duty on the bike.

The papers I have seen of the bike purchase were of march 06 and the bill of entry has mid may 06 on it. No chance of the bike being older as the VIN no. also confirms it to be a 06 model.

I am sure he has not done any "jhol" while getting the bike. So, there must be some other legal way to get it.

The odd reason is that they send a letter to the crime branch to get the vehicle cleared.the procedure is simple.

If the crime branch has an objection to the vehicle they sent a letter back.

If not the RTO waits for One month and proceeds for the registration. But as this is india the RTO asks to a letter of clearance from the crime branch.

The solution to this is to go to the crime branch personally or someone who knows people there and get the letter of NO objection.

i know because i faced all this.Even i waited for about 4-5 months and then got the letter and threw it in front of the RTO.got the registration then and there and also got this stupid issue covered by the news papers to show how these people trouble us so that they can get some under the table cash.

Over complicated procedures i must say, anyways your hard work paid off.

One question, how does one buy non-registered bikes from outside the country? Are there special bike dealers or you have to go to the showroom and you can buy it.

Well i had gone through the procedure to import a bike from abroad.legally that is.well the documents required can be given only by the manufacturing company.alo another clause stated in the import regulations of india state that the bike has to be imported from the country of origin.so it basically means that you have to get it through a manufacturer.so private people like us buying single bikes are out.

if you search the net for custom regulations you'll find all the facts i stated above.
