Or something that is more traditionally a sponge?

I was looking for some contraption which will foam the vehicle up directly from a garden hose - any options? Since I do all washing and cleaning myself, i guess this will make my life a bit easier.

No, I cant invest in a pressurized equipment at the moment.

For washing top down till the running boards, use a wash mitt.

For the running boards, use a sponge.

For manual foaming, use this foamer.

Be wary of warranty and plug/voltage variances before you decide to buy from abroad. The price is almost half compared to Indian sites though.

Re: A superb Car cleaning, polishing & detailing guide

Hello

I am looking for collinite 915 and Meguiar’s Mirror Glaze Detailing Clay, Mild.

Any idea from where can I source these products?

The prices available on Amazon are absurd and almost thrice the actual price.

For Collinite check Greenz Car Care. They are the official importers for Collinite.

You can look for clay there also. Meguiars clay isn't all that great honestly. There are better options on the market.

Checked with Greenz and it's not in stock though the website says it's in stock. Any other alternative?

For clay I was going by the brand as I have never used it before and wanted to start with the mild one to avoid any damage. What would you suggest for a newbie?

Regards

You can try www.bringingbest.in, this guy is also mostly recommended on the forum. I've sourced from him Hi Temp Paste Wax from FinishKare long back.

You can go for the "bilt hamber" auto clay from www.detailedclean.in.

It is available in three grades - soft, medium and regular. I have been using the soft one and it does the job really well.

I will suggest starting with the soft clay as it is not aggressive and will not damage the paint !

Okay. Will the soft one be able to take care of paint overspray?

For the paint overspray, you will have to get the regular one.

Quoting from the website "Auto-clay regular is ideally suited to cars not previously clayed, those which are heavily contaminated or for the removal of overspray".

As regards, Collinite, you can get one from "http://store.ultimatedetailerz.com"

Checked. Not in stock. Only 845 and 925 is there. Having used 845, I wanted to try 915 this time.

As for the clay, my cars have never been clayed. I think the regular one is required then.

I hope you are aware of the fact that moving to 915 from 845 is considered Quantum Leap in terms of effort needed.

Be prepared with a orb machine if you are planning to move to hard wax. I have 915's siblings in my kit, 476s & 885. Without a orbital, it takes me half a day to go bumper to bumper using Sensei Miyagi's technique of Karate Kid.

Good luck.

List of the 3 famous Collinite waxes in order of ease of use

a) 845
b) 915
c) 476s (nightmare level)

Prithm's advice is sensible. 3 tips:

a) Please use a very, very thin coat of 915 or 476s and 2 x 2' at a time.
b) More is NOT better.
c) Also, Do NOT let Collinite paste waxes dry otherwise you will literally have to consider using a hammer and chisel to remove any dried up bits. Ask @Leoshashi who is well versed with waxing his car

I was hoping I can still manage with elbow grease!

I don't intend on using the DA.

My selection was based on reviews which said that it's a hard wax and the ease of application lies in between 845 and 915.

Would you suggest something else giving similar longevity and looks?

ROFL!!

I broke both the rules of waxing with Collinite's paste wax:

1. Apply thin
2. Don't allow to dry.

The recklessness was somewhat deliberate as I had in my mind: How hard can it be??

I was using Collinite 915 and as long as I was buffing it off immediately, there was no issue due to thick application. I was doing two panels and then buffing.

As luck would have it, I had to leave for some important call, and completely forgot the un-buffed panels. To add fuel to the fire, I had to leave for a road trip the next day. Those two panels remained like that for over a month due to my schedule. When I decided to remove them eventually, the wax had become hard as a rock.

I tried washing it, no effect. I tried buffing, it simply won't budge. R2D2 Sir recommended using some Quick detailer, even that didn't work. Eventually had to resort to some wax stripper and couple of rounds of petrol and diesel wash which eventually revealed the clear coat which was under the wax layer for over a month.

Never mess with Paste Waxes!! Learnt my lesson, the hard way!

A pic of my 800 from the trip with wax still on, notice the LH door closely:

That was taking things a 'bit' too far

Do you think 915 is a good upgrade from 845 with reasonably more effort? Considering the DA is out of question.

Where did you source 915 from? It's out of stock everywhere

TBH, I am yet to use it properly as it's meant to be. And hence I am not the right person to comment on this.

A friend carried it for me from US.

Did you try Greenzcarcare? They had it in stock last time I checked, albeit expensive compared to getting it from abroad.
