Just a small suggestion- Please check the airflow direction set knob, it might not be positioned correctly or maybe that know has gone kaput and air direction is being set to windshield. Try to set it to some other setting and see if it works.

Handbreak light on

I have 72K done 2002 Indica DLS, since morning I noticed that Handbreak light is on even when it is disengaged. I drove for around 35 kms in the morning and it kept coming and going on its own, Any idea from experts about the possible cause of issue before I show it to mechanic.

Thanks !

You are running low on brake oil. It may have leaked due to:

- Faulty rear brake drums.
- Some connecting pipe leakage.
- Faulty clutch master cylinder (only if you have hydraulic clutch).

Please read post #254 onwards for similar problem in my Swift Diesel.

If you are lucky, it might be just what greenhorn pointed out, but make sure you get the diagnosis right

Eddy and Greenhorn thanks for the pointers, I shall be getting it checked on my way back today. I hope that driving back 35 kms in the same condition won't cause any problem like break failure kinds

Edit - Eddy just seen in the other thread that you are in Dwarka. I stay in Janak puri and work in Noida, lets meet sometime

The rear master cylinder seals are usually a trouble zone for indica. Get that checked first, thats what leaks the most.

Yesterday evening drove from Noida to Janakpuri(around 35 kms) and handbreak light never came up. Checked for the fluid after reaching home and it was just below half way mark, within max and min range. Went to nearest spare parts shop and bought dot 4 fluid, noticed while topping it up that it is golden color and very fluid like whereas older one used to be red color with bit of thickness.

Called up the mechanic and He said they are compatible, checked on net today and found that it can create problems with the plastic parts. Any comment from experts on what can be done to reduce the damage?

I have a 2004 DLS at 80K. The brakes are soft and the pedal has to be pressed down more than usual to brake effectively.
This problem has been there since the warranty period but nobody has been able to fix it. Brake pads are ok, Master cylinder and calipers were checked recently but the problem persists.

It doesnt take an expert my friend, It has to be that switch. ( you can see it yourself if you peer down what all your had brake touches). Oh man, Green said it right. I think i "saw a master cylinder breakdown" ?? Handbrakes are mechanical unless you got discs at the rear, Dear God Please do not make Team-bhp into a Yahoo answers! Please!

Think its DOT3, please check, Yes, its true it can 'melt' the plastic. The light goes on if there is anything wrong with the brake system, ( the switch or the brake fluid ). If the fluid level has gone down, you must have a leak. Flush out, get the required brake fluid topped up. And while you are at it, check the master cylinder and the cylinders on the wheels.

Indica 40 K Service.

I will be dropping my vehicle Indica DLG for 40K Service tomorrow. Please the experts can share the thing to be taken care. I am getting the vehicle serviced at 10K Kms as suggested by the TATA service manual. I am traveling for around 100Kms daily & getting a mileage of around 17K/lit involving 80% percent of highway driving through NICE road.
As of now I have listed below problems for getting it fixed.
1) Check Eng light starts gloving when the engine is started and stays for some 4/5 minutes and gets switched-off after that.
2) Break pads looks to be worn-out. Planning to get it changed.
3) Wipers have worn out, need to be replaced. During rain it is problem.
4) Oil change
Not planning for de-corboning as the pick-up good and I am fine with it. I have taken the extended warranty so have booked slot for servicing at Prerana Motors, Peenya. I had got the service done at this service center for 30K Kms service and their service was good.

there is a 40k bill repository at the indica user group
http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/...ervice%20Bill/
you need to get membership to view them.

get bosch wipers from elsewere. better than the OE syndicate ones.

And do post your bill here /there after it is over to help others

At about 59000kms and 45 months, my Marina is still with the original pads and original wipers.

Sure change the items if indeed they are worn out and need to be changed.

The following is mine:

Yahoo! Groups

And it does not need membership to view.

Shouldn't he post it in his thread?
