re: What was the average life of your car's brake pads?

Just learnt that the OE brake pads of the new Mini Cooper lasted only ~10k kilometers.

Same with Toyota LC80 series, which is lasts even lesser!

The former, being a light vehicle, I'm wondering why!

Monsoon takes a toll on brake pad's life, at least that is what I have experienced on Motorcycles.

By chance, does the mini come with drilled/slotted rotors? Those rotors can be a cause.
Toyota LC, I am surprised!

Thanks,

Hi,

Can you please elaborate on what type of conditions the car is being used? I mean, is it mainly city or highway?

Hi
I have been using it in my town (which does not have traffic conditions of a metropolitan city) occasional long drives.I use engine breaking a lot. So far only one of my rear wheel cylinders has been greased after it had jammed last October. Even the break shoes on the rear drums have not been replaced.

re: What was the average life of your car's brake pads?

For my wife's Micra, the service advisor told that it is time to change 4 brake pads - she has covered 23k km till now. Cost approx 3.5k. Now as I read this thread, I guess this is fine considering that we drive in bangalore and mostly on 2nd gear.

57 k kilometres in my Vista and still going strong. So far so good. The brakes still have good stopping power.

re: What was the average life of your car's brake pads?

Well against popular belief my Altis's break pads have seem to lasted more than the average trend. Might be because of relatively less traffic in Vadodara. At 31k kms the rear pads are still 5mm thick and will go another 10k kms. The front ones stand at 9.5 mm and I guess will last another 20k kms.

But the life depends on the driving style and usage of brakes.

I feel the average life is 35-40K kms. I have changed the pads in my Ritz at 60K and the present set has a life of another 8 - 10K kms left.

Oh no. That is with normal cars. Altis is special in that way. Its apparently plagued with "earlier than usual" brake pads failure. The usual is 20k kms. Mine apparently will make it to 40k kms.

May be the wear out time as you say is faster in the Altis, but 40K kms is good enough for the size and drive you get.

What is the cost of replacement? Any idea?

Not sure. Around 7k for the pads IIRC.

re: What was the average life of your car's brake pads?

My car Honda Jazz went for service today@40k on the odo. The service advisor tells me that the front brake pads needs to be changed and it costs a whooping 4500/- .

Is this the actual price or am I being taken for a ride?
Should I look for after market alternatives - Bosch or anything else??
