re: What was the average life of your car's brake pads?

Just got them changed at the 60,000 kms mark in my Vista. Paid 2400 bucks for the change.
The brakes feel much better now.

Is this the first time you have changed the pads after purchase of the car?

Was the brake fluid changed and bled?

Hey Anurag...yeah this is the first time since the purchase of the car.

Brakes were bled and fluid topped up.

Should I look for after market alternatives - Bosch or anything else??
not sure about "jazz", but i have been charged a similar amount for brake-pads on my city.I needed the car urgently then,so dint look at alternatives.

For Bosch try the 'Bosch Car Service' centres in Hyderabad and ask for a replacement.

AFAIK, There is one dealer who stocks Bosch parts in Tirumalghery.

The rear ones are going good, may last another 10-15K ? current ODO is 62K. btw, every few months, I get the front and rear ones cleaned.
I just checked this old bill, the mileage mentioned was 46K KM when the first time the front brake pads (above) were changed.

Changed the second time the front pads at 88K KM, this time the rotor disk was skimmed as well to even-out the surface.

The rear brake liners were first changed at ~82K KM, which still had some life remaining, but had a long trip to undertake then.

The current ODO is ~89.5K KM.

But the spare parts dealer (mentioned here on the teambhp directory Metro Spares), told that he has been recieving complaints about Bosch Pads.

One user on this thread mentioned these being Noisy.

Please help me on this.

Is Noisiness the only issue- in which case I would ignore it - as it does go away over time.
What kind of complaints did the metro guy talk of?

Thanks for replying buddy. Honestly I didn't ask. I "assumed" he would give some vague reason like most shopkeepers do. - My fault.

I spoke to him over the phone. He said he has Hyundai genuine ones too, apart from the regular TVS, Rane etc. and has Bosch too, which he doesn't recommend because of customers complaining.

So I will go to the shop this week and decide then and there.

Yup noise can be ignored. If that is the only problem.

Any suggestions on which Brake fluid to buy as well?

AFAIK - it's DOT4 type - but check the user manual to be sure. And any good brand will do.

I have Bosch pads in my i10 AT. Yes, it is noisy. Last time when I gave it for service at the Hyundai ASS, they tell me that unlike the Hyundai OEM pads, BOSCH ones are metal and hence the screeching sound. I'm not sure. Can anyone throw some light on this.

Why not open the pads and clean them once to see if the screeching sound happens again.

Anurag.
Next time we meet, I shall give you the privilege of having a check on this, while I drink a Cafe Cuba.

But my concern is are these BOSCH pads really metal and Hyundai OEMs not. Will they cause any long term injury to my wheels.

If they are hard then it will eat away the disc plate.

Do look at the condition of the disc plate too when at ASC.

re: What was the average life of your car's brake pads?

Is there any way for us to really find out if the brake pads are worn out by physical inspection? I mean, in my case I do not trust the authorized service center as he asks to do even unwanted repairs.
