Ask them to take a break! Even the newest driver will not wear the pads by 5K kms. Be it city or highway driving, 5K kms for pads life is too low.

There aren't ready to accept the issue with the pads. Why not get a second opinion or another ASC for right diagnosis?

I just changed Vitara's brake pads, this is the second time I replaced it. It has done 92000 so far. That's like 46000kms per set of brake pads.

Might have been discussed, but apart from driving behavior/technique, rains/mud too have their say on brake pad life. As well as terrain. On hills, brakes are used more and that may result in quicker wear of brake-pad.

After every monsoon, my bike's front disc pad requires a change, sometimes as early as September.

I have not panic braked in a long time, hence my brake pads do last.

Bikes are a different story

What car is in discussion here? It is normal for heavy SUV's to wear out their brake pads in 5-10k kms.

If its a mid size car, what make pads were those? Performance pads are known to last much lesser.

Changed my stock front brake pads on the Swift Vdi at 71000kms, still had some life left, approx 5k kms, but thought it best to change them during the 70k service interval. Original Rear drums still going strong.

Any specific reason for such low-life pads by design?

Is it the heavy mass that the pads needs to haul down?

The Nissan Sunny chews up the brake pads every 20000 kms for me.

Honda CRV brake pads last about 30000-35000 kms for me.

Hi all,
I hope Im posting this in the right section...

My 2009 innova has done 51,000 KMs. I got it serviced yesterday and was told my Front Disk Pads and Rear shoes need replacement. The front Pads cost 5000 and reas around 2000 which seemed exhorbitant to me. As I was sitting there I just checked online and the Bosch Pads are available less than Rs. 700 --- amazingly 1/10th the cost.

On my way back I just stopped over at Tilak Nagar where there are old Bus Workshops and a credible dealer suggested Bosch for 650 and another "Indian" brand "RANE" which is rated better and is for Rs. 750.

I just wanted to check with the avid members here and take suggestions on which one to buy-- Rane or Bosch or is there a better aftermarket Pad set available. Since these are brakes, I certainly want to be absolutely sure.

Also I'd appreciate if you can point me to some good Mechanic/Workshop in Delhi (prefereablly West Delhi) credible & knowledgeable enough. I have 2 Innova's (another one 2005 model)

The reason is Toyota do not make brake pads. I own an Etios and i changed the front brake pads around 6 months backs. I checked the new brake pads in the service bay before they installed it. They opened it from a sealed box where it was written 'Toyota Genuine parts' or alike but when i checked the brake pads it was made by Bosch! It was clearly written on the rear metal part of the brake pads. So its clear Toyota buys them from Bosch and sales the brake pads at more price! So if you can directly buy it from Bosch at a lesser price, why not go for it!

Thanks Samba, I was pretty sure Toyota uses Bosch as its an international OEM brand.

While I researched, the aftermarket dealers also "vouch" for RANE, they say all trucks/buses and commercial vehicles use RANE pads. But seriously, I've never heard of RANE ever.

Now the Second Challenge is to find a Genuine Dealer selling Genuine Bosch and other Toyota Parts, and not just Stamped (Thappu) ones.
Please do tell me where to buy them, and also a good reliable mechanic / Workshop to get it fitted.

For me the lifespan of disc brake pads is as below.
1. Hyundai Santro Xing around 24 thousands to 27 thousand kilometers.
2. Renault Duster. 19 thousand and still counting.

p.s. These both are disc pad life in extremely hilly areas. The life span of similar vehicles driven in plains may be more .
