IIRC, the Palio Stile started this revolution of bringing in projector optics in B segment cars, am I correct? The performance of Palio Stile headlamps is just awesome - even though the bulbs are regular halogen - is that because of the projector optics alone?

Thanks,
Anand
Typically the main beam is the projector lens setup and the Hi beam is a reflector based setup and both these are combined together in the same headlamp assembly (in Laura).
The Projector lens optics is very good for beam control and has better focusing, and especially with HID Xenon lamps, it is required to get the right beam focusing. The projector lens setup also works well with Halogen lamps and many companies use the same headlamp assembly to standardize the headlamp assembly.

However, the output of the headlamps depends greatly on the quality of the lens and the lamps used so it will not be fair to generalize this! In our own case, our Laura uses this setup and has good Lo and Hi beams, while our XUV which also uses a similar setup and has projector lens for the Lo beams (also with Halogen), does not generate good beams on Lo beam (they have degraded to 50% of original level in 4 months!) This may have been due to dust ingress or Light output reduction - we need to get it checked.

re: Skoda Laura: Problems & solutions thread

Guys the RS has developed a tiny squeek, after some enthusiastic driving. It seems to come from the rear left, and is only when I go over a sharper bump or the car is made to flex a bit. With normal bumps there is no noise. Is it a common problem, any idea what it could be?

Otherwise will show it at the dealer when I take it to change the horn.

re: Skoda Laura: Problems & solutions thread

Akshay, never driven a Laura but when I purchased my Octy RS, I had a similar problem. Turned out to be the rear seats making the noise when the car flexed going over an uneven surface. Was solved by shoving a piece of cloth padding behind both the rear seats (just below the rubber stopper on which the seat back rests). Bomi

re: Skoda Laura: Problems & solutions thread

hey. My Laura Facelift just after 2 months of purchase has developed an irritating problem. The rear parking sensors keep falling off and into the rear bumper. 1st time one of the middle one's fell off. At the service centre the other middle one fell off. They fixed it and assured that this won't happen again.
Came home and realised that the electrical coupler had been reversed and parking display in the HU is mirrored! Decided not to go to the service since this was managable.
2nd time at ISKCON while parking the middle one again fell off, after coming home checked the others and the corner one gave way.
Another visit to the service centre and after a good 1 and a half hours wait was attended by the same technician. This time they used super glue to stick the sensors. And also the guy is now blaming it on me saying that in the intention of checking wether the sensors are stuck on hard or not, that i was pushing the senors in!! I showed him a completely Totaled Laura at the service center and even its sensor wouldn't come off no matter how hard i pushed! The service manager was called and after a heated discussion, was assured the super glue will hold no matter what.

And guess what Today morning while taking the car out one of the sensor has fallen into the bumper. This is driving me mad. I don't know what be angry at Shoddy build quality at Skoda india, or the Simply pathetic Skoda After sales service!!

Please advice me on what i shoukd do next and also is there any way to fix it? I don't think i can bear another trip to the skoda service without strangling the service advisor

Hey Guys,

Planning to book Laura TSI Active in the next week. Are there any features which are disabled in the Active (base variant) and I can request/insist the dealer to activate before delivery? Any specific checks needs to be done? Any sort of information on Laura TSI Active model will be helpful.

The Active is stripped of a lot of features, meaning the hardware is missing. So I doubt there are many feature which you can activate. Probably you can ask for 'Autolock' to be activated. With 'Autolock' activated the door locks automatically when the car attains a speed of 15 kph. Check the manufacture date through the VIN and do a thorough PDI before the car goes for registration.

The Active comes with steel wheels. Ask for a deal on 15" Ambeint alloys. Here in Bangalore, dealers have a lot of unsold stock of brand new 15" alloys which have been traded in by Ambient car owners for 16" Alloys, at a throw away price.

That's quite an unusual problem you have there. Looks like the factory has missed some step in installation of these sensors in your car, which probably escaped unnoticed in inspection. Bad luck! Happens in manufacturing. Hope super glue does the trick.

Thanks for the inputs. Though I was actually looking for a car in 10L range and was almost decided on either Vento TDI or Mitsubishi Cedia Sports. Then my heart just pushed me a little more to think of Laura TSI at an extended budget of 4L (it is ~40% more than my current budget). Since I will anyways be streching quite a bit for Laura, dont think I would be able to spend a penny extra on any additional accessories at the moment. Still would give it a check and find out the deal available, if any.

If you are getting the Active for 14l then there is something wrong. Ideally you should be getting the Ambition for 14l.

I meant ~10L was my max budget. Cedia was coming to me at 9.20L.
Laura TSI Active's on road price - INR 1324506, which is 4L more than what was going to spend on Cedia Sports.

Just OT question for Laura TSI owners and especially to those who have experienced both Laura TSI and Cedia Sports : Power figures are definitely higher on TSI at 160bhp/250Nm whereas Cedia does 115ps/175Nm but where does Laura TSI stand in terms of handling, high speed cornering and performance when compared to Cedia which has the racing DNA in it's genes?

Alright, but isn't that still a bit high for the Active? I mean if you can get the Ambition under 13l ex showroom then it might be worth going for that over the Active. There are good discounts going on. I just bought the RS with a little under a lac discount and it was the same for all petrol variants.

Hi Akshay,

This type of squeak, if it is coming from near the rear seats can be from the leather seats rubbing against the plastic trims inside anywhere or their hinges (below the seats). Check for this all around and just try reclining the seats forward once fully and having them rubbed down with any good leather conditioner. Also, have the hinges greased so that they also don't squeak.
One of the source of squeaking in our Laura is the front seatbelt locks, which rub against the seats, when the seat heights are high enough to foil with them. I lowered the front seats on mine so that the locks don't rub against the seats anymore and the squeak is gone.

Regards,
Behemoth

re: Skoda Laura: Problems & solutions thread

Has anyone had a instance of a continuous 'tick tick' sound (something like the tick tick when the indicators are activated) coming from some where near the steering column? Its stated suddenly in my Laura yesterday. This was after I was playing around with the tilt steering in the car.

It only starts after the car is in motion, i.e. if the car has been switched off and then restarted, there is no tick tick sound, but if i start moving this sound starts and then will not stop even if the car is stopped / stationary and engine running.

If i switch of the engine now, and restart the car, and car is still stationary, the sound is not heard, but as i start moving it restarts.

No errors shown on the MFD. All functions are working.

Am wondering if it could be a faulty relay or fuse.

These electrical / electronic faults in the Laura give me the jitters, coz most service centers are also LOST when it comes to such things!

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
