Yup. There certainly is, If you read my impressions on the swift on the old thread. I had too mentioned this.

The problem hence my friend was that this steering is light and very consistent when compared to the old one. You need to drive it for a longer period of time (Which I later did) to realize that the steering is more direct and sharper.

Once you get the hang of it, you will definitely book one.

GTO - Excellent, thorough review.

One question - Why are i20 , Jazz not mentioned in the comparisons?

With the price slash, the Jazz does become a great VFM hatch specially with the features it offers. It gives a premium feel , loads of space which when compared to Swift is a great positive for the Jazz and the over all package is in fact very tempting as even the lower end comes with all the safety features.

Somebody considering the zxi would surely keep Jazz as one of the options.

Got a call from my dealer a couple of days ago that Maruti will deliver the car next month. We had booked a white VDi 10 days ago and the quoted waiting period at that time was 4-5 months.

Thats surprising!

Anyone else received similar calls from their dealers? I feel Maruti would have allocated extra production capacity for Swift to clear-off this huge backlog, now that the strike has been called off.

Mine was booked in the first week of September. Hoping to take delivery by Jan 2012, though qouted waiting period was 6 months.

Surprising indeed. We're booking ours soon. I managed to convince my wife (who wanted the Polo) to get the Swift despite the waiting period.
I really hope we get an accelerated delivery but Im not holding my breath. Where are you based and who's your dealer?

It's already mentioned twice in the thread. It's not possible to include each and every hatch in the comparo but for ones that are most likely to be cross shopped in the reviewer's point of view.
Besides you can easily compare your shortlisted options from separate threads.

I stay in Bhubaneswar,Orissa and my dealer is Jyote Motors.

PS: My dealer had promised to try to deliver the car in about a month or two(when quoted waiting period was 4-5 months) if and when somebody else couldn't take delivery because my dad said he won't go for finance. It was a kind of good news for the salesperson( though i don't know how). May be you could also try a similar dialogue in front of your dealer.

But recently when the dealer called,he mentioned that i would receive a call from the Maruti company shortly, to ascertain my booking which means we are not being alloted anyone else's car.

re: Maruti Swift : Test Drive & Review

I test drove the Jazz and its a good nice car but somehow it lacks the punch and not a great drivers car. I havent driven the new swift however the old one was definitely a hoot to drive. So waiting to test drive the new swift over the weekend and see if the new one is better than the jazz.

The good things initially gives a bad feeling which gets corrected too soon. That means things are not bad as projected.

The improvements to the steering system should be appreciated which gives more feel. So too the agility. Read the test drive report which categorically mentions this as a plus. See the excepts;
Quote:
The handling remains sharp with good all-round grip levels...The front end of the car is eager to change direction.... I thoroughly enjoyed chucking the car in & out of the Aamby Valley ghat corners. She also feels safe enough during lane change manouveurs at expressway speeds. The steering feels direct, well-calibrated, and suits the car’s sporty intentions. That, combined to a tight chassis, makes the Swift feel incredibly agile. Agility that cars like the Punto & Vista can only dream about. I’m no fan of EPS steerings but will admit that the Swift’s gives a reasonable amount of feedback on what the front end is up to. It also weighs up satisfactorily at expressway speeds and will keep most of the mass market happy. No, it’s never heavy, but isn’t nervously light at speed either.

re: Maruti Swift : Test Drive & Review

My brother got his grey VDI delivered last month, he wanted ZDI model but delivery period was around 6 months. Dealer told us that most of the bookings are for VDI model and that too in white color, as a result Maruti is producing more of VDI in white. We got lucky to get our hands on the grey color

You compromised on safety even though you could afford it and traded it for an earlier delivery? Wow!

Thats the power of Suzuki. I read about folks complaining on the delivery delays of Honda Jazz/Brio. But no such issues here. Book a Swift now, and take the delivery in June 2012!

re: Maruti Swift : Test Drive & Review

Hello Team BHPians,

I am an owner of a Toyota Corolla and thinking of changing it for a Swift. I did read the review about the new Swift and took a liking to its subtle nature. And how it takes its time to impress you. It isn't a rush of power nor is it slow, its just sublime.

I would like to know as to how much of comfort I will be missing from the Corolla. I've been driving it for the past 4years and have liked every bit of metal in it but the rising fuel costs have made me to think about owning a diesel hatchback. I do own a VW Vento and Toyota Innova. I wasn't impressed by the Vento and the Innova isn't for daily commuting because of its large bulk.

So do let me know about your thoughts. There are somethings that I will let you know, my driving will be limited to only about 800-1000 kms a month. I understand that the rule of the thumb while choosing a diesel over a petrol but I just must pick up a diesel car(orders from dad). My trips will be going all around the country, and yes most importantly ABS would I really require it. The SWIFT isn't actually a swift car as stock vehicle so would it become a mandatory accessory for me.

My driving style: I've had my days driving fast so now I limit myself to just 80-100 kmph.

Cheers and thank you as always !
