Will they not allow you to inspect the car and then give the go ahead for registration post your inspection? That's quite strange and in fact, pretty worrying if true.
Don't want to mention the dealership publicly, maybe can discuss on PM.

He did mention that i can check car after allotment. But he said i cannot be there for PDI, they cannot call or handle customers coming for it. I told him very few would anyway do it, but he wasn't agreeing to it and was fine with me not booking for this.

I don't know if there was some communication gap and what exactly he meant by 'allotment'. I was trying to use the standard terms like PDI and PRI, and he was against me being there for those. He was also not comfortable with me going to their warehouse.

It's another matter that i have never done those in past, but since team-bhp strongly recommends PDI i was thinking i should do it. Also not sure how much of it is practical for someone who doesn't understand car internals. I need to read up more on the PDI checklist and understand it better.

Incidentally, i called up another dealer after that and they said i can go to their warehouse and inspect the car. Should i ask him exactly using phrase 'PDI' or something else ?

Please do send me PM mentioning the name of the dealership. Just want to confirm whether it is the same as mine south Bangalore.

I think all you need to tell him is that you wish to see the car physically before it goes for registration, since once the registration happens, you cannot do anything about any faults you may notice thereafter. No dealership should have a problem with this, especially since the customer is paying 6-7 lakhs of his hard earned money for the vehicle.

Not being able to do PDI is quite annoying. But with Maruti I think it is standard practice. At least in Delhi NCR.

A friend of mine had booked Swift Dzire P. When the time of delivery drew near he was told that he will be allotted his car at the factory itself and the relevant nos. VIN etc. will be intimated to him through SMS and phone 2/3 days before the car actually reaches the dealer.

Something similar had happened to me when I had taken the delivery of my Wagon R in 2007. Even before the car had reached the dealer from the factory in Gurgaon (a distance of 40 km) I had its registration number.

Just off the topic. In Delhi you get your vehicle's registration number with your vehicle and as had happened in my case 4/5 hours before I had the chance to lay my hands on my car. RC take a month's time to reach you.

re: Maruti Swift : Test Drive & Review

Car Trade India reports 2-4% cancellations in Swift bookings due to the delay. Seems a pretty small number for the humungous waiting period expected even at full production capacity.

Maruti Suzuki Swift witnesses 2 to 4 percent cancelation in bookings due to long waiting period

The new red is nowhere as exciting as the old one. Infact, I feel its a better variant of the previous sunlight copper metallic colour (Hope the name is right!).

Wonder why Maruti cannot offer two sporty colours on the swift!

Well, my personal favorite red/maroon shade is the one that comes on the Spark. I like the bright red on i10 also, but somehow i feel bright reds may not age well and become dull with time.

Personally didn't much like the blue shade on old swift/i20 either, hope the new torque blue is good

It's sad we are discussing so much on colors, what to do, waiting periods are so high

IMHO the BLUE is awesome in any car . esp i20 blue is awesome with a tinge of purple in it . Dunno why u don like that

IMHO the Blue 2k11 swift is by far the best colour in the 2K11 swift releases.

Will post pics soon

Agree with you. The blue looks absolutely smashing, and suits the sporty nature of the new Swift admirably. The red is also very nice. From what I have seen, the blue and red are welcome changes to the eye amongst the sea of Whites.
Congrats on your colour choice, and do post pictures soon. I myself am awaiting delivery of my blue VXi in the next couple of months.

re: Maruti Swift : Test Drive & Review

The Major differences that i can see with the new swift under the skin are
1) The Refinement of the Diesel Engine. Excellent work by MS Engineers, No fuss at high speeds
2) Improved Suspension - Even with 4 moderately sized ppl in the rear seat , we never felt any bump or screeches
3) Awesome steering response
4) Excellent stability at high speeds

On the Down side , Power delivery is made linear unlike the outgoing swift diesel . Hope this pips the fuel efficiency.

re: Maruti Swift : Test Drive & Review

I will be getting my white Vxi in 2 weeks time, hopefully by next friday. Blue color was available, I had rejected it since it doesn't go well with my personality(IMHO) and felt it will be difficult to maintain! Chennai is dusty! it will be very difficult to maintain dark colors especially blue and black.

Congrats for your VXi

BTW i guess white too may be difficult to maintain in chennai as the roads are muddy to the core because of the recent rains

Anyways Happy S.W.I.F.T ing

re: Maruti Swift : Test Drive & Review

Searched through the thread and found no similar post, so putting it up.
With respect to Plastic quality ONLY, how would you rate the following cars? Inputs from someone who's owned or extensively driven these cars would be great.

1.Swift
2.Hyundai i20
3.Volkswagen Polo
4.Fiat Punto

Can we rate it on a scale of 5 ? With 5 being excellent, 4/3-Very good/Acceptable and 1/2-Atrocious. Lets leave the fit-n-finish out of this.
