Re: Driven : 2021 Tata Safari XZA+ 6 seater

Interesting feature distribution - The XT+ gets the Sunroof and the XZ gets a whole lot more minus the Sunroof. So if you stretch to the XZ your heart will push you to put in that little extra and get the XZ+ with the Sunroof. But does the XZ+ put you in Innova territory, if the Innova adds a Sunroof to their mid variant would that change anyone's mind.

As for looks, I miss the butch Safari look. The Harrier looks nice but the old Safari looked rugged and I wish Tata designs something on those lines too.

Re: Driven : 2021 Tata Safari XZA+ 6 seater

The launch video didn't tug my heart strings like the older Safari ads. While we are all aware of the legendary Dicor ads, I bought my Safari Storme nudged by this relatively lesser known highly underrated video. The sound track gives me goosebumps even today.

Looks absolutely smashing! The best looking 7 seater under 35L in my opinion. Dark edition (but light interiors) will look so gangsta

Fortuner vibes from this one

Re: Driven : 2021 Tata Safari XZA+ 6 seater

I have attempted to compare the feature distribution in the safari and harrier variants based on the brochures available on the respective websites.

Also, below is the list of features which are exclusive to safari and also list where safari is offering in lower variants as compared to Harrier. Safari XZ/XZA has everything except the panoramic sunroof.

Re: Driven : 2021 Tata Safari XZA+ 6 seater

I'm actually impressed to see the feature spread between XT and XZ. Unlike Harrier you don't have to get XZ+ to get the electric seat. Now + variants are only for sunroof option on top of other features which is how it should be. I'd anyday prefer ventilated seats for Indian condition over a sunroof so XZ variant makes a lot of sense to me on Safari compared to Harrier.

I agree.

I am looking at this without any historical bag and baggage and purely in terms of what the product offers and at what (approximate) price point.
I think they have done a great job in bringing out this product. I liked their emphasis in the launch event on the type of testing they have done thus far. They need to kit it well. I would want to see front sensors, 360 camera and also better rear camera even if it costs more. Also heated ORVMs even as an option.
I would not care much about wireless charging, foot operated boot. I would care about uneven panel gaps and the finesse in stitching (I noticed that some pictures of the arm-rest had stitching that was not perfect) - even this is part of the quality of the product.

Listening to the background score, seems like it's from A.R Rahman, just hazarding a guess here. Any update we have on that ?

But the earlier Safari had that distinct towering presence. Not to mention the car's "Go Anywhere" ability. This one has neither. This is basically 90% Harrier. No exclusivity. Also as you said, being sparse on equipment wasn't a forte of Safari. It had that elusive aura around it, that despite the feature misses, people adored it. I am quite sure, this one has neither.

Agreed, issue is many aren't actually warming to the Safari. I wish someone adds a poll to this post.

Re: Driven : 2021 Tata Safari XZA+ 6 seater

First there was the Tata Safari. Then came the Harrier. Then Harrier got 2 more seats and the Buzzard a.k.a Gravitas was much talked about. All these have now merged in soul and body to form the all new Tata Safari 2021.

I hope the Harrier/Safari twins are niggle-free and take the fight to the Cretas, Seltoses, and the Compasses. And I hope Tata launches AWD versions soon!

Good Job, Tata!!! The design looks like a perfect evolution.

Re: Driven : 2021 Tata Safari XZA+ 6 seater

Earlier Safari had towering presence of a truck, body on frame, 4x4 etc but the market response was bad.
Tata then tried to bring in Hexa Body on Frame, 4x4, feature loaded, again it lost and didnt capture the market.

So we cant complain, Tata gave us the products which we are demanding now but no one bought it. Not sure how many of us have taken the plunge and bought Safari Storme/Hexa.

To me Safari is feature loaded and if I was looking for a seven seater Safari would have been on top of my list. My only worry is the comfort in ride for the 3rd row passengers even for a short distance.

How will the twisted beam suspension perform as against to Hexa's rear suspension. I had to sit in my Hexa last row for around 2 hours with my laptop and it was a comfy ride.

Can Safari match this? To me this is the biggest point and I am ready to let go all the fancy features.

Hopefully someday the cars come with 6 airbags and all the safety features as standard from the base version.

I was hoping Tata to follow and start this trend from Safari. Everything is there but 6 airbags are available only in higher version.

Re: Driven : 2021 Tata Safari XZA+ 6 seater

The Safari while riding on the Harrier platform will definitely have its own road presence with the extended body design and 18” rims. I just wish they would have worked on a striking front end differentiator too. Overall I think it ticks all the right boxes for people who were waiting for a 7 seater Harrier. While 4x4 and Ventilated seats would be a great addition, Tata should have worked on fixing the rear camera quality and some essential connected features at launch.

The pricing has to hit the sweet spot and be a no-brainier, its essential for Tata to taste early success with this model.

Now awaiting the onslaught of Electric versions of all these great looking Tata cars. Not to miss the Hexa in a new avatar.

When that is done, the price of base variant gives a sticker shock. 6 airbags don't come cheap. Also, since the side airbags are put in the seat, you can't put a seat cover. So leatherette seats needs to be given instead of fabric.

Look at Yaris that did this. Everyone called it expensive and it was a royal flop.

Re: Driven : 2021 Tata Safari XZA+ 6 seater

This can be an interesting game "Identify the differences"

Driven : 2021 Tata Safari XZA+ 6 seater-picsart_012702.58.55.jpg

Anyways, I am impressed with all new Safari except the use of excessive chrome at the front.

I would have loved slightly different front than Harrier but no complain here since I like Harrier.

Now I'm waiting for new Mahindra XUV5OO. It'll be exciting to watch our home manufacturers to compete each other in luxury segment.

Sorry for going off topic here. But I think the case of the Yaris is a peculiar one. The car committed Seppuku via its looks. Had it looked less polarizing, people sure would have paid the premium for safety + Toyota badge without hesitating. The exterior looks and the cabin setup were rather awkward compared to the competition. Thats what worked against this car.
