rkbharat, for the rear passengers there are two options available.
The first is a vent from the front blowers near the knee level of the middle passenger sitting in the back.
The second option is a seperate unit that is at the head level and can be seperately switched on/off indepdently from the front unit

Right, LX has vent from the front blowers near the knee level of the middle passenger sitting in the back.

While EX has both knee Level and Roof Top.

I guess, a separate AC unit is worth considering. I though its only extra Vents.

LX Vs EX

You can have immobilizer from teh dealer itself, They charge 6100 and will install ther same immobilizer, I asked it from A-Motors delhi. I did nor bargain, so you can have it on LX as well.

Now if you say that the beast is very much doable without it, I am happy.

Just did a comparison few days back:

First service

When is the first service? After completing 1200 km I went for the first service. Dhingra took it saying that there will be oil change etc and would cost appox. Rs.2,500/- (material cost only). When I went to pick-up my vehicle they said that oil change etc will happen only after 10,000 km. It seems they have no clue/info about service.

Can any tell me if this is OK/right, ie oil change will happen only after 10,000 km????

Open your Owners manual. It has the correct information on what needs to be done when.

Even I have read in the manual that in the first service they do not change the oil, just top it up .

My car has run for 800 KMs and I am off to Delhi-Chandigarh-Amritsar-Ludhiana-Delhi road trip this weekend. Would be staying there for 4-5 days. Therefore by the time I come back the car would already have clocked 1000+ KMS and would be around 2000 KMS.

Thus I called the service station and asked them for suggestions regarding the 1st service. As I do not want to get the beast serviced by an unknown service station. The service engineer said that I could bring the car and they they would do the service at around 900 KMS. Have booked for thursday. Earlier he said that as the car is to be serviced between 1K-1.5K I will have to pay for their normal service, but later on he told me that he would put the odometer reading to about 1000 kms and I will save 650 bucks.
I specifically requested for an oil change (as they do not provide one free). The engineer said that it would really do alot of good to the engine if I get the oil changed.
Approx cost of 6.4ltrs of oil 900-1000.

I asked him what all they do in the first service.
He said that they tighten all the doors, rear door, re-tune the engine, top-up the various lubricants & some other activities.

Update on FUEL Economy

Filled up the tank yesterday and the beast returned a fuel economy of 11.43.
I think that it would increase as I did a lot of bumper to bumper driving and last week was the diwali weekend with a lot of traffic on all the major roads.
After the 1st service I think that the fuel economy should increase.

Service Intervals for New Tata Safari 2.2 VTT

Was reading the service manual and came across this.

The service intervals for the 2.2 is every 15K KMS.
I think (I may be wrong) that the 3.0 is serviced every5K kms?
Is the 15 K service normal?
I have seen that they have recomonded tyre rotation/ balancing & alignment at every 15K. But I would be getting mine done every 7.5K KMS.
Also at what intervals should the engine oil be changed?
As I am getting my beast serviced on Thursday and will clarify these queries with the service engineer & would post the same.

BTW I have scanned the relevant pages of the service manual.

11.43 is impressive given it was your first fill up. The engine will open up as you pile on kilometers and give even better fuel average.
I would suggest you go for a change of engine oil during the first service.

Hey

This is really interesting...

1. Every 15k fuel filter is changed....
2. Usage of API-CH4 or higher grade diesel engine oil..Was wondering if we could use API-CI4 Castrol Diesel Magnatec in 3.0 ltr

.

You going to be in Ludhiana for a day? Go to Dada motors, they are better than any service center in NCR.

Regular service interval for the 2.2 is 10K. Its just the first service which is early, i.e. checkup and stuff to sort out any initial niggles.
