Guys, a quick question. I have a K10 that just turned a year old, last month. Of late I've been noticing that the gears do not exactly slot into position (mainly 3rd gear). It surely does not feel as precise as how it was a couple of months ago. Has anyone else faced a similar issue and if yes, how did you get it rectified?

PS: I did take it to the service centre to get it checked, but they informed me that there was no problem.

The gear shift is via a cable.
. Any change in length will affect the shifting.
. A kink in the cable will make it difficult to shift.

Guys, need some validation. :-)

What do you think of the price tag of 3.79 lacs (on-road) for Alto K10 VXi in Kolkata?
Includes (apart from mandatory stuff like insurance, taxations, registration etc):
1. Exchange bonus = 20000
2. Corporate discount + MSIL discount = 24000
3. Accessories (Mudflap + Car care kit + Idol (he he) + Foot-mat etc) ~ 1800
4. Incidental charges = 2350
5. Handling charges = 3500

Is it a deal to go ahead with? Awaiting your inputs.

Regards,
Supratik

Is it 3.79L after all the discounts?
Seems to be on the higher side, as my K10 cost 3.5L in 2010 in Delhi with no discounts and no accessories.

I spent 5K on exchange of Michelin XM2 and 8K on the stereo. Considering that the road taxes are much more in Kolkata than in Delhi, the 3.79L is quite high.

Thanks Aroy,

Well I made a mistake in the inclusions. Actually it is 3.59 lacs. I forgot to account for the exchange bonus.

Does this sound about right, now?

The list price in Kolkata is 355171.75 as per the site http://www.altok10.com/

you are getting a discount of 20K+24K = 48K, so the price is now around 3.56-.48=3.08L. If you add insurance and road tax ~ 30k here you should get the K10 for 3.4L max, so 3.59 is still high. In my case the ex-showroom was around 3.35 and on the road 3.55.

Please verify the price breakup of the dealer. there is some thing wrong in the OTR price you are being offered.

@Aroy, you are correct. Dealers are quoting around 3,59,950 INR as the ex-showroom.
So that is where the 4K is mis-placed. Hmm!

Hi guys, any upgrade version or with additional features in the K10 to be launched soon?

I think rear defogger is a safety feature, which should be made available in the full option version.

No sir not 25+kms, but I in my Alto K10 get 31.76kms on nasik mumbai -manmad highway..w/o AC,and with some best methods of driving.I have been driving for the last 40 yrs.

Hi. I've had the Alto k10 since a week. It's the perfect vehicle for me. Adequate power, very smooth and small enough to zip through. It doesn't handle pot holes well but that doesn't bother me much. I'm able to squeeze out 14.5kmpl from driving in heavy traffic with AC running. It'll hopefully improve post first service.

Help please. How do I work the front fog lamps ? Where is the switch for it ?

The foglight switch is the inside lever on the stalk from where you operate the headlights. congrats on the new car.

What is the recommended engine oil grade for 1.0L K series engine and how much engine oil does it take?
Any suggestions for a good semi synthetic engine oil for 1.0L Kseries engine?

It takes exactly 3L of engine oil (a few tens of ml less than 3L) with replacement of oil filter. Recommended grade I am not sure, but I changed the oil from the factory at 2500kms to 0W40 Fully Synthetic and it has been running well so far. Will be sticking to this grade going forward too.

For semi-synthetic, a good option is the Castrol Magnatec 15W40. I have not used it in the K10 but have used it in the Spark earlier and it was certainly a better oil than the company provided one.

The fog lamp switch is a ring on the light stalk, which you rotate.

The oil filler by MASS is specially formulated by Indian Oil for Maruti K series engines and is sufficient, else Castrol is fine. I use 5w30 which is better for Delhi winters.

It was right in front of me and yet I missed it. Thank you both. I prefer the fog lamps to the head lamps in bumper to bumbper traffic.
