Doesnt that mean that i would get a higher ground clearance of around 6mm and loose a similar sidewall height. The increase in GC would surely be great. But will the 6mm decrease in sidewall make such a huge difference in comfort / more importantly rim protection? Need your feedback on this.

gemi, why do you want 15" ? Figo in stock form (14" wheels) itself is a good handler.

Let me put it this way. The Tata Indica (old model - V2/Indicab) used to have 165/65R13 tyres as standard. These tyres have exactly the same sidewall height as the 195/55R15 tyres. If you want to find out the effect of this sidewall height on the rim, and incidences of rim damage, why don't you poll the cabbies in your area?

Anything above 30 makes the car very bouncy. I have seen maruti recommend 36 for Ritz D. But i guess Ford recommends only 30 for single to double passenger.

So are you saying that 195/55 would be more prone to rim damage than 175/65 eventhough the difference on paper is just 6mm.

Theoretically, yes. But also depends on the type of tyre you fit ...

But I meant exactly what I said - I don't know the condition of the roads in your neck of the woods, so ask people running cars that have the same tyre sidewall height as the 195/55. I gave the example of cabs because they clock up astronomical kilometres on all sorts of roads, and hence will be a statistically representative sample set.

The first generation Zen came with 145/70R13 tyres, with a sidewall height of 6mm less than 195/55. LOTS of complaints of rim damage later, Maruti moved to 145/80R12 with the facelifted version.

The tyre quality and type of road also can be considered for tyre pressure. I am also using Michelin XM1+ (185/65 R14) and the roads i drove regularly are good with some bad patches. I always keep 32 PSI (nitrogen) and it is very smooth (mostly i drive alone) and also gives less bottom scrape than 30 PSI.

i have 195/60/14 on the car rite now, i would love to Upsize just for the looks sakes, i am thinking 15, but would like to get a insight on the 16 before i take the step. i am aware that the 15's are very comfy, i still have another 5-8 K Kms before i change tyres, i am running CONTI.

Are you sure about the wheel diameter of 17" ? Or was it a typo, and you meant 15?

If you really did mean 205/50R17 then - in one word - don't. Size is way off, you are definitely going to have issues with scraping suspension/bodywork.

Tyre width of 205 is a bit of overkill for Figo IMHO. I wouldn't go beyond 195, given the power and torque of that diesel engine. 195/55R15 is max for me.

195/55R15 generally costs around 4-4.5K per tyre, I think. Best person to ask is @nikhilb2008, our resident tyre expert.

Dear Enthusiasts,
I wrote before about my car's tire upgrade from stock to Goodyear 185/70 R14.
After 4+ months and 11,000 km of pliant ride and zero under-scrapping, I am happy to report average fuel efficiency figures of 15-16 km/l City and 18-19 km/l highway. Air-conditioning switched ON 90% of drive time.

In my opinion and experience the size 185/70 R14 is arguably the best suited for the car. I am beginning to wonder why the company doesn't use the same as standard fitment owing to the constant woes of under-belly scrapping. The ride is also much improved with the tire upgrade.
