Here are a couple of very nice ads dated 1929 posted on the HMCI facebook page. They are printed in Gujarati, I am adding a rough translation

The first is a treat - I hadn't even heard of the brand Elcar before, a quick google said it derived from the Elkhart. Its highly unlikely any survive in India. The price was a princely Rs.4200

It is an ad for Fiat dating to the late teens or early 20s.

Prices start from Rs. 4,850 going up to a whopping 22,000 - almost 4 times more!

A few years ago a Maharaja purchased an Adler Cabrio. In the file this price list was found. Not cheap for those times for sure. But Adler did sell a lot of cars in the 1930's, and there must be more than 20 survivors.

Adler Motorcycles were also sold in India, how many survive?

I also had an Adler typewriter, maybe it's still around.

It is interesting to note that by now only the known bigger manufacturers are listed - no more Austins, Hillmans, Morris' and the like.

Such a ready reckoner of the then cost prices (ex- showroom mostly) of brand new motor vehicles, that have now become either Veteran or Edwardian or Vintage or Classic or New Classic, has become very essential these days. Any such vehicle now bought needs an invoice to decide the levy of state taxes, mainly the road tax during registration of such a machine. To start with, I am uploading a few with me at the moment.

Some of these images may have been posted by friends elsewhere in other threads. Mods,would request you to please allow for reposting such images on this thread as the purpose is to have all such information in one place.

Thank you @anjan_c2007 for starting this thread. I was born in the late 80s. So, I didn't get to see and experience many legendary cars that many of our elder members of this forum got to. It's supremely fascinating to see all those old advertisements and invoices from the 50s and the 60s.
