I am restoring a 1947 Austin A40 Dorset to factory specifications. My car is missing the door and quarter panel exterior chrome trim. I was interested to see in this post photos of a Dorset that has the trim I am seeking. I am located in the USA, so it is not practical for me to go see if the car is still there and if the property owner would be willing to sell the trim to me. Can one of you folks check to see if the car is still behind the Ford dealer and provide a contact person's information in regard to the possible sale of these items to me?

Hi Bill, welcome. I don't suppose there could be too many Austin A40 enthusiasts in the States now could there?

The cars are still lying there derelict last that I checked (less than a month ago). I think they belong to a local collector who has some lovely cars. Whenever the opportunity presents itself I will enquire on your behalf, but don't hold your breath.

Re: Rust In Pieces... Pics of Disintegrating Classic & Vintage Cars

Thanks so much for your help. I've been looking for these trim items for several years. In the USA, there are about 11 Dorsets in unaltered form, and most of these are not roadworthy. Most of the Dorsets that survived past the 1950s were made into street rods or gassers.

Clement,
its not for sale and worth nothing, disputed car, sold from Delhi to Jaipur,
belonged to someone else and now he has taken the possession, no papers, no engine, nothing to save.

Are you looking for a Rover Project ?

regards
Kartik

That is the red one with the 2.9 litre engine. This looks like a more powerful one

Nope! This car was spotted in Tamil Nadu.

The amalgam car is red and had different wheels I think.

There was no V8 version of this car. Jaguar engineers ensured no V8 would fit in case the, then current owner BL cars decide to put the Rover engine in it. As a result, when Jaguar decide to add a V12, they had to re-engineer the front of the car. That took a while so they continued making the old version in v8 form!

Where in TN is the car?

Saw these inside ONGC Colony, Andheri, Mumbai.

The car on the left looks like a Merc W201/W124. Someone please identify the car on the right.

Cheers
