Looks like the rear windscreen has been enlarged and the fuel filler cap modified. Hope the mechanicals under the hood have not taken the Maruti Omni route.

Got this from a Whatsapp contact.

1932 onwards, used to ferry the Royal family on Dussehera. Maybach DS8 Zepplin. Only 100 were manufactured.

Purchased by Chh. Rajaram of Kolhapur from London in 1932. As the royal flag was orange, the car was ordered in orange livery. There is a figurine of Goddess Mahalakshmi in front of bonnet along with royal symbols of Bhavani and Shivrai (Chh. Shivaji ) custom made by Maybach on the middle headlamp.

So far no breakdowns and maintained in very good condition. Approx value is 40 crore rupees.

Black wasp, HI.

A bit of advice, do not believe everything you read !!

The car has broken down several times, after all it is a machine, and rare as it is, it's value is nowhere near what you state.

Also, on this forum we generally avoid prices and values

Thanks for the pictures. I believe this car is actually an SW38 (not DS8 Zeppelin). Could stand corrected!

The only "Indian" Zeppelin I know of is the ex-Patiala car.

Ah! Yes. I'll keep that in mind. Regarding price, I just posted what information I received. I should have verified it.

I disagree on the broken down part. It is possible that a well maintained car will not breakdown. Will try to get more details of it.

Well,we can always agree to disagree.

Help was requested after a breakdown , and given... Way before your birth young man!

There is no shame in this. After all , it is a piece of machinery that was never built to last this length of time.

I know. It's a machine after all. I'm really surprised at this car! I know a bit more thanks to people on this forum. Always welcome to correct me.

English Ford yes, but most likely not Prefect as that came only as a fordor afaik. Different boot shape too. I'd be more inclined to say Anglia or Popular. With a rear windscreen modjob of course.

Has a late 'Forties / Early 'Fifties Poona registration.

BYF is Poona; 1947ish to 1954. I've seen BYF registered cars all over South MH; and even KA.

That aside;

__________________________

A long time ago; the streets of Poona used to be full of 'em Fiats. Trust me, almost every decent household seemed to own a FIAT 1100 Delight. Or more often than not, a Premier Padmini. Deluxe. BE. Or BU.

These days, one hardly gets to see 'em. Sad, isn't it?

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present you MHI 3747; one of the last surviving 1971-72 FIAT 1100 Delight's in Poona.

Sadly, the condition is nothing worth writing about.

Pics: Vintage & Classic cars in India-wp_20151031_005.jpg

MHI is a Poona number, circa 1971-72. That number font is so typically Puneri. Haven't seen it in any other city. And the colour also. So very typical. The thing is, these FIAT's from Poona, more often than not are *quite* rust free. The weather in Poona, is I daresay, magical for old cars?

I couldn't help feel a bit sad as I walked away from the car. That car felt trapped in time, belonged to a gone by era....almost felt like a misfit in this era of swanky cars.

Sad, isn't it? If only people could respect their cars, particularly if they are nearly five decades old.

Sigh.

Yes, somehow even I feel the same. These old cars ooze out class. One simple can't pass by them without a second/third glance and a walk around if possible.

These cars are getting less and less in numbers. Sad to see some of them left in such a state.
