And how common were Standards in your part of the country? I was under the impression that they were less popular than in places down South, Ambys and Fiats having more preference there?
The colour of our car was White & L. Green (as mentioned on the instruction book in my grandfather's handwriting). Had never seen this car. My father learned driving on this. He enjoyed the acceleration - he used to go 100kmph and once almost crushed a man!

There were a lot of Heralds in Gujarat. I remember one of my friend's father had it till early 90s. These days I cant see any. Last time I saw a convertible here was around 3-4 years back.
I LOVE this car esp. the convertible. Its still in my 'Cars to Own' list.
But I have heard its difficult to maintain as spares are hard to come by.

Yes the green would've been LITCHFIELD Green.

Glad to know you still have the instruction manual of this car!

Also I presume that is yourself sitting on the bonnet?

Great knowledge man.
The kid sitting on the bonnet is my cousin brother. Come on- I was not even born in 1963!!
BTW, are you the first owner of your Herald?

Re: Standard cars in India

After seeing so many of these cars on this thread broken down and sad, I thought of putting up a picture when these cars were in use, and maintained.

Cheers harit

Aah, good to see this Pennant (BMC?) again! I recall you'd posted a couple of pics. of this car in full view, one where 2 kids were on the roof-carrier?

I too thought that the picture was of the same car.
Here is a damsel errr Standard in distress. And the kids happily pose for a photo while daddy is playing mechanic. This was a Mumbai registered car.

Well it should be. Even the 'owner'(?) standing by the car looks familiar.

Good to read of more Heralds existing in Gujarat!

'doesnt look bad except that it's lost quite a few bits on the outside, besides that pseudo-convertible job!

Thankfully the dash is still left 'unmolested'!

So you found out if its up for grabs or something?? If so, Good Luck!

Hey I have seen this car - Is it the same owned by Mr. Kadia. He is the owner of Durga Motors here in Ahmedabad. But he was to sell this car way back in 2004.
The car was molested for sure when i checked at that time.

Shyam,

Was this a "tounge in Cheek" remark ? If not pray please explain how the dash is "unmolested"

Best Regards & Drive/Ride Safe

Well, compared to various other similar dashboards I've seen, this is rather so (IMHO)- it has the original meter and the chrome strip across intact (albeit painted over) and the dash too is overall in good condition, hasnt caved in nor starting to crumble, like they usually do (hence replaced with fabricated wooden dashes). Of course, it does have add-ons like that extra meter on the right and the couple of switches. But that's again common on most (Indian) Heralds.

Re: Standard cars in India

Hey Priyadarshan,

This car is lying in Kondhwa area, Look at the Second Pic closely. The Standard Monogram is visible.
