This car belongs to the Nawab saab of Sabza Colony, Tolichowki! He had more than a dozen of vintage cars maintained in their original condition but after his demise his children decided to sell all of them and sell they did! All that's left of that classic garage is this Herald, a Contessa and a Willys jeep! When I was clicking this car I was told that these cars weren't for sale. But if you really wanna go for it then I suggest you go and talk to them personally, they might actually sell it!

Re: Standard cars in India

A real fine piece for keeps. Fantastic fine and in all purity. Every inch original and all the monograms intact. see those wheel discs, pretty neat and the original paint. The white walled tyres. Stanher go and get it and preserve it. The most important aspect is that it is almost rust free.

Re: Standard cars in India

The Standard thread had gone too far back, so brought in front.
This taxi is BYL registered, and where could this be? The building far away is not significant for easy identification.
Above the Hindustan taxi is an old Vanguard.

Cheers harit

BYL could have been M'baleshwar or Panchgani? As there was (is?) a BYL reg'd Ford taxi van in Wai. But this seems to be some city in the plains.

There's a new addition to those set of cars, a Triumph Herald. I did talk to the owner and he said that he's planning to make this beauty into a convertible!

It would be more appropriate to say STANDARD Herald!

Triumph Herald is what it was known as in the UK.

Yes thats a Badal...with a Lambretta engine.

And that Standard is NOT a Pennant. Its a SUPER 10, an older model!

Its been lying with him since ages, he said he didnt want to part with it. twas partly stripped and primered but was left covered in red-oxide, lying opposite his house, on the other side of the street. Now atleast he's moved it closer to his house and put a coat of base paint on it! Here's the same car when it was bought:

The building far away has "DREAMLAND HOTEL" written on it. Any idea where this could be?

Cheers harit

As I suspected, that is outside Poona Station. That white 'flowing' compound wall still stands if I'm not mistaken. Incidentally the ownership of the hotel changed hands a couple of years back after decades in the family.

BYL is indeed a Pune commercial vehicle registration, probably shared with Mahabaleshwar/Panchgani/Wai/Satara at the time.
