As wasif said, its a Jeep chassis. The garage basically specialises in jeeps. BTW, you remember I told you I used to see that MPR chevy lying at a garage for a while here (now being restored at your garage! )?? This was the very place! That car was parked in the spot to the left of this Herald.

I'm not sure, but I was under the impression its an Austin...I think I did take a pic. or 2 of it too, need to dig them out- when I have more time!

Re: Standard cars in India

Hi all,

This is my Standard Herald Mark 3, taken before 31-12-2010.
It was like this for around 12 years . But there is almost 0% rust as chasis was coated with anti-rust compound or something and it was just painted then.
Before you guys curse me and tell me to move the car, I'll upload pics of the car's current home soon and then you guys can decide

Hey rutvik, nice to see pics. of your Herald at last!

Wow, you'll forgive me but this car seems far better than I expected it to be when you first described it! I have seen very few mk3s in general, and even fewer that are this tidy and complete!

I doubt if this car was lying at this spot for 12 years- it would've been far too gone then...something like this:

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/vintag...ml#post2022274

Your car seems quite complete atleast on the outside- any interior pics.?

She seems to need very little parts to bring her back to 100% original.

Looking forward to seeing more of her!

Re: Standard cars in India

Stanher,
Without meaning to offend you, this car has been there for 12 years and I know it as I have memories of being in it before . It's been there since atleast 1999, since we bought a Padmini then as we didn't get any spares for the Herald.

And would you beleive it, it started on first crank when it was started up a fortnight ago and driven back home

Thanks for the comliments but the interior will surely dissapoint you.

Nice to see the car washed and kept inside the house

I can donate the horn button.

I can also lend you my upholsterer and polishing guy, these both will transform your car back to its original state.

But, what are your current plans with the car?

*ahem* Sorry I forgot to mention- so happens I too have a spare horn button lying at home.
And that happens to be an OHH REE GEE NAL one for the mk3 (will upload a pic. later, too fatigued for now, just got home from work..!!)

But do be warned, these being Indian-made (as were all parts for the mk3 Heralds by then) are relatively delicate compared the UK-made LUCAS ones of the earlier mk1 Heralds. They also tend to fade/crack sooner.

Re: Standard cars in India

Stanher sir, only if you had told me about the horn button yesterday ,
my friend's father came from Hyderabad today and he would have brought it with him :(
BTW don't worry, we'll figure out a solution

Re: Standard cars in India

I happened to go take a look at this mk1 Herald today. The owner had met me (and my Herald!) at the 26th Jan rally and invited me to come over to give some pointers as he plans to restore it now.

He'd acquired this car last year from his colleague, who'd bought it many years ago only for claiming fuel allowance from his co. Therefore, the car hadn't run for around 10 years or so I was told, before they bought it.

It is still a by and large original with pretty much everything intact (the missing bonnet badge I'm told has been stored away) and I'm told is now mechanically sound too. The lack of use has of course, taken its toll and it does look like the car would need a body-off rebuild.

'hope to see it regain it's lost glory soon!
