Re: Early registration numbers in India

Here is another series I did not have earlier - CAF in Karnataka, probably applicable only to commercial vehicles / municipal busses?

Karl, this is part of the series exclusive for all vehicles under KSRTC/BMTC. You will also see cars/Jeeps owned by them in the same series

The order of series is MYF, MEF, CAF, KA XX F, KA XX FA

Cheers

KPS

Re: Early registration numbers in India

KPS,
I have a list of the Mysore MYx series and where they were issued (except MYI but I guess that was never issued). I have a very few of the MEx codes that followed MYx but none of the CAx codes (except now I have CAF).
Do you know if all the ME were issued by the same places as MY were. e.g. MYG/X and MEG/X were Mangalore.
Do you know any more ME or CA codes?
Cheers
Cedric

Re: Early registration numbers in India

yes, CA series were used till 1989, most of it were Bangalore based RTO registrations. CAG was for Govt Vehicles while CAF was as mentioned used by KSRTC / BMTC.

Sunil

Hi Cedric,

The MY series was followed by the ME Series. The ME Series followed the MY series with respect the location as pointed by you, example MYG became MEG, MYC became MEC and so on.

When the C series started, we had CA for Bangalore only and CN & CT for outstation RTO's

CA series was in use till the computerization of numbers and included CAA, CAB, CAC, CAD, CAE, CAF (KSRTC/BMTC), CAG (Govt. Vehicles), CAH, CAI, CAJ, CAK, CAL, CAM, CAN, CAO, CAP, CAQ, CAR, CAS,CAT, CAU, CAV, CAW, CAX, CAY & CAZ.

Cheers

Re: Early registration numbers in India

KPS, sunilnp.
Many thanks for this. Your information is most helpful. I am now able to answer some questions but it also raises more of course, being the Indian registration system .

My list shows that the CB series was intended to be Bangalore also (presumably after CA series). I have no photos of CB registered vehicles though. Do you know if CB was ever issued?

My list also shows that CK, CL, CM, CN, CR, CS, CT were all or were all intended to be Karnataka registration series. I have a few photos of CK, CN, CR and CT registration series in use. Does anyone know if the others were ever issued? or which vehicle classes the various serial letters were?

Lastly (well for now anyway) regarding the Bangalore CA series, I have that
CAA, CAW commercial vehicles
CAB, CAC, CAE, CAH, CAJ, CAN, CAO, CAP, CAR, CAT, CAU, CAX, CAY, CAZ private vehicles
CAD, CAI, CAQ 2-wheelers
CAF state RTC
CAG govt

CAK, CAL, CAM, CAS, CAV unknown vehicle type. Can anyone fill in any details please?

Cheers
Cedric

Karnataka Power Corporation Limited had two jeeps up for auction, registered CKM (1987), CKO (1989) and CNE (1989).

We had a Premier Padmini registered CNO (Mangalore) which was an '88 IIRC.

A friend of mine owns a Yezdi Roadking motorcycle (mid- to late-80s) originally registered CMM, from Mysore.
Another Roadking registered CAU, IIRC from Bangalore.

Cheers,
Rahul

Re: Early registration numbers in India

Hi Cedric,
CB series were very limited and used between Dec 1989 to March 1990 after April 1990 we moved to new series starting KA - XX -XX XXXX. RTO Jayanagar Bangalore issued CBK series, do not recall the others being used.
CAK, CAL, CAM, CAS, CAV were all pvt vehicles. in the CA series we did not have differentiation based on 2 wheelers or 4 wheelers, it was either pvt vehicles or commercial vehicles unlike the numbering scheme based on new series post April 1990.
Best Regards
Sunil

This is not an official registration of India.

This is a police registered vehicle, photo taken in 1944! I expected such numbers to have been stopped by 1939. Some more knowledge on registrations gained.

Cheers harit

PAx series is Punjab. There is a PAO registered Beetle that attends events regularly. I also remember seeing a PAL registered Padmini in Pune years back - what a plate to have for a Fiat!

If I'm not mistaken this bike was restored by a TBHPian, the photo I think had his dad standing next to it. Must find the post.

MC existed as well, probably before MC/P. There was also MC-1234-X.
