The ladies were American "Flapper" girls who traveled to South Africa, Egypt, Ceylon (as Sri Lanka was then known) and India. There is also a photo of them at Kalyan station. Check "Flapper" on the net, must have been adventurous in many ways. These photos are now travelling back to India

This is a brand new Fiat, unfortunately cannot read the number plate.

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Hi guys,

Luke writes in with this picture. His Grandfather owned this car, is it still in India?

He lived in Poona on the boat club road and the pic was shot outside his bungalow with Luke's father sitting on the car.

Thanks

That's a lovely pic. The car is the Morris of the 1920s, maybe KartikeyaL can identify. The registration is the old series, invalid after 1939.

Incidentally I too live on Boat Club road, and understandably enough, I cannot recognise the surroundings

This car looks like a Morris Major Six (1931-33)
Here is picture of similar car I found online
Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars-morris-major-six-1932-fronta.jpg

Bumper blades look different, but mostly everything else matches.

A similar Morris ( Isis) was for sale a year back, with the same kind of grill,
though it had different kind of horn and Head lights.

Here is the picture, the car was in Bikaner and I believe has gone to Kolkatta

Thanks. The bumpers look to be taken from an A-Model Ford, which is strange, considering how relatively new the car would have been in the photo.

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Found these while browsing through old english photographer forum.
The second pic is graphic and the caption mentioned riots in Lahore.
What cars are there in these pics?

The third Picture is of HH Sawai Mansingh and Gayatri Devi of Jaipur with their Bentley outside Rambagh palace, Jaipur, has been discussed many times on the forum.

I believe it is a steam / electric car. Seem to have seen something like this before. Have to do a whole lot of digging!

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Some nice old pics. shared by a facebook friend, Amaresh, from Madras. These were mostly cars that were in his family in the past. He said his grandfather had an Austin A 40 as well, though he is yet to find pics. of it at the moment.
Can anyone from Madras confirm where MDJ belonged to btw? Definitely a district in present-day TN but not sure what J denotes.

Also need help in identifying the 3 cars in the last pic- they all look American?

Very nice pictures! Enjoyed them. Regarding the second picture of the Dodge buses - I realized that the posterior part remains quite the same to this day.
