Dattatraya Lohar from Maharashtra was all over the news last month. His claim to fame was a small car built using scrap. Lohar has now received a Bolero as a gift from none other than Anand Mahindra.
The vehicle built by Lohar looked like a mini Thar and soon caught the attention of Mahindra's top boss. Lohar was offered a Bolero in exchange for his creation, which will be put on display at Mahindra Research Valley.
Anand Mahindra confirmed this on Twitter saying, "Delighted that he accepted the offer to exchange his vehicle for a new Bolero. Yesterday his family received the Bolero & we proudly took charge of his creation. It will be part of our collection of cars of all types at our Research Valley & should inspire us to be resourceful".

The 2022 Bolero pickup has an upright front fascia featuring a redesigned grille. The front bumper also looks a bit chunkier than before.
On the inside, the pickup gets a 3-spoke steering wheel and a conventional instrument cluster. While the rest of the dashboard is wrapped in camouflage, it is expected to be sparsely equipped.
The updated Bolero pickup is expected to be offered with the same 2.5-litre diesel engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. It will also come with a factory-fitted CNG option.

The Bolero is getting a makeover, and if recent media reports are to be believed, Mahindra might launch the Bolero facelift in January 2022.
It is said that Mahindra has had to postpone the launch of the Bolero due to the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent semiconductor shortage. The report also states that some dealerships have started accepting bookings for the updated model.
Looking at the spy images, it seems the Bolero will receive a redesigned front fascia. It will feature a new grille and a tweaked front bumper.
Under the bonnet, the Bolero is expected to get a 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 74 BHP and 210 Nm. The motor will be equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission.

BHPian raj_5004 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.
Here are some pics of our beater car that we use at our native.
It's a Bolero Power+ in SLE trim. This car was barebones and we have recently done a few convenience & cosmetic mods to it:
Driving the Bolero is an adventure in itself! The new 1.5 ltr motor can be termed 'adequate' at best. It picks speed decently till about 90 kmph, after which it is a struggle. But the good part is that it's torquey, so even if you load up the UV, it will still pull cleanly without any hiccups. I was pleasantly surprised at the NVH of this engine though. Gone are the days when a cold start of a Bolero used to sound like a tractor. The 1.5 mHawk engine is smooth and silent.
The steering is vague without any feel, so keeping the UV pointing in the right direction at high speeds is sort of guesswork.
Ride is good at low speeds but hit an undulation at high speed and the passengers are bound to puke. Braking is again mediocre and engine braking is more of a necessity rather than a good driving technique.
Reliability is the major forte of the Bolero. It keeps performing without any complaints and I can vouch for the fact that it can take any abuse you throw at it with minimal complaints or issues. Service costs are low since the parts are cheap.
