Kia Sonet GTX+ diesel MT at 1000 kms: Observations & fuel efficiency

I can't stop talking about the engine refinement. Its absolutely calm and superb to drive on the highways. Even in city, the engine doesn't disappoint at all.

BHPian muglikar recent;y shared this with other enthusiasts.

Update after driving the Sonet GTX+ diesel manual:

I got the delivery of my Sonet on 22nd June 2022 and within the first week itself I was able to cover a 1000 kms and even sent the vehicle for its 1st servicing. These 1000 kms were 60% highway and remaining 30% light city traffic and 10% bumper to bumper traffic.

Initial feedback:

On the highways, the vehicle is a brezze. The 1.5L diesel engine is fun to drive and works wonders at higher gears/speeds and especially when the engine heats up a bit. I use the Fuelio app to maintain logs and get overall average details.

First fuel up ever for the vehicle was for 41.95 Litres and 2nd one was for 39.59 litres (auto cut both the times) and with a mix of 60:30:10 I was able to get a FE of:

18.46 kmpl. Here is a screenshot from the app.

Few quick observations:

In city drive, if you don't use the correct lower gear (keeping it on 3rd gear even if the speed is say 20kmph) and trying to pick up from there, the vehicle manages to climb up the speed but the FE goes down. I was a bit lazy and tired during a routine return journey from office to home and I got an FE of 13 kmpl.

Then the next day I drove with correct gear shifting and I was able to get about 18 and 20 kmpl.

Bumper to bumper traffic completely affects the FE, and I was not able to get anywhere above 14kmpl.

This was for the FE conscious folks.

Performance wise, the vehicle gives great feedback while driving. I was confidently making turns on the Pune Mumbai expressway at allowed speed of 95-100 kmph with zero feeling that the vehicle "wont" manage this. I hope you understand what I mean here.

While driving, the best things are as follows:

Wide touchscreen, UVO, useful ventilated seats, seven-speaker Bose audio, cooled wireless charging, multiple active Bluetooth connections. I can't tell you how these features are a boon. I mean there are 50 other features to list but these ones are really the ones I have used the most.

I had a spare smart phone at home, so I bought a Jio SIM and kept this phone permanently in the car. The entire music system, wi-fi etc is run from this SIM and suddenly my "already" connected UVO car is an "internet car". My personal phone battery does not drain at all. At the same time, my personal phone can get connected to the system as well so I get to attend work calls etc too. Isn't that great? Don't have to press a single button to manage any of this. Just setup once and you are good to go.

I can't stop talking about the engine refinement. Its absolutely calm and superb to drive on the highways. Even in city, the engine doesn't disappoint at all. You get torque even at about 4000 rpm, but most of the times its between 1800-2000 at 95kmph and I guess that's what gives the 26 kmpl efficiency that I got from Bavdhan Pune to Bandra Mumbai. Here is the screenshot for your reference:

I will be doing a road trip soon and will keep you all updated. Cheers and stay safe, drive safe.

Toyota Innova Crysta cross-country drive: 5 days, 6 states & 2800 km

Fuel efficiency was nothing to write home about, with the MPV returning an average of 9 km/l.

BHPian ganeshnag75 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

I must share the excellent experience I had with my Crysta 2.7 Z on a long drive across the country.

I just completed a 2800 km drive over five days, across six states from Kohima, Nagaland to Hyderabad, Telangana. I did the trip with a companion driver, the second row filled with luggage and my dog in the third-row space after folding the seats.

We drove between 12-15 hours each day, taking adequate comfort halts. The drive was completely fatigue-free, even in some bad road patches between Siliguri and Kolkata. On most highways, we were comfortably cruising at 120 km/h. No niggles, no punctures; just sheer driving pleasure. I am glad I opted for the AT, at the end of the day, I still had enough energy to walk my dog for an hour!

FE, as expected, is nothing to write about. I was on Eco Mode most of the time, with occasional switches to Power Mode to zip in heavy traffic stretches. The Power Mode does give you a high when you slice through traffic effortlessly! The average FE would be about 9 km/l, and I confess I was enjoying the drive, rather than worrying about the fuel being guzzled!

My Odometer now reads a grand 8500 km, after exactly one year of ownership. Of these 2500 km were on a Delhi - Kohima road trip, and 2800 km on this one. I must thank my fellow BHPians for steering me towards the Crysta last year, I couldn’t have had a better set of wheels!

4th gen Honda City petrol: How I managed to get FE of 22 kmpl

While coming back (GGN - DDN), I was determined to extract the maximum fuel efficiency and hence drove with a very light foot.

BHPian VVN recently shared his with other enthusiasts.

Recently did a Dehradun - Gurgaon - Dehradun trip for work purposes. I wanted to push the car to its maximum when it came to performance and spirited driving. Dehradun - Gurgaon gave me 17 kmpl @ ~ 290 kms.

While coming back (GGN - DDN), I was determined to extract the maximum fuel efficiency and hence drove with a very light foot. 80% of the journey was with the AC on and ~ 40% was with cruise control between 80 - 90 kmph. Managed to extract 22.2 kmpl @ 250Kms as per the MID. I usually get a negative variation of 0.5 - 0.8 kmpl tankful compared to the MID.

Honda City Hybrid real-world fuel efficiency: 1st tank-to-tank test

It took me 10 days to cover the indicated 428 km range to get an accurate fuel efficiency number.

BHPian Greenville recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

My first tank-to-tank test was done on the e:HEV and the whole ride was in Bangalore traffic (which was bad or worse all the time, including last Friday's heavy rains). During the entire trip, the vehicle was in econ mode" while drive and break modes were used intermittently.

It took almost 10 days to cover that 428 km and the trip meter readings always hovered around 19-20 km/l. Tank to tank with top-up was done at the same fuel station, and the mileage figure of 18.22 km/l was a pleasant surprise.

Real world fuel efficiency of the Kia Carens 1.5 NA & 1.4 turbo petrol

The moment you floor the pedal and get some fun out of the motor by keeping the rpm above 2500, get ready to see single digit fuel efficiency.

BHPian sou_3749 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

These are the figures for 1.4 petrol Prestige Plus manual covered close to 5k kms.

100% city with heavy traffic and AC set at 23.5 and short trips of 2-5 kms ~ 9-10 kmpl.

100% city with light traffic and AC set at 23.5 and short trips of 2-5 kms ~ 10-12 kmpl.

100% city with light traffic and AC set at 23.5 and long trips of 10+ kms ~ 11-13 kmpl.

100% highway with 6 people onboard and AC set at 22 speed around 90 kmph ~ 18-19kmpl.

100% highway with 6 people onboard and AC set at 22 speed more than 100 kmph ~ 15-17 kmpl

The moment you floor the pedal and get some fun out of the motor by keeping the rpm above 2500, get ready to see single digit FE.

Here's what BHPian NivasBaskaran had to say on the matter:

All this data is as displayed on the MID for the 1.5NA petrol.

Highways: On cruising between 80 to 90, 17+KMPL. On cruising between 90 to 100, 16+KMPL. Load 3 adults.

City: 10 to 12 in normal traffic. Less than 10 on B2B traffic.

Here's what BHPian peudo_coder had to say on the matter:

Mileage of 1.5 NA petrol:

I have driven 4k till now, half if it highway. Overall average is 13 kmpl.

Highway driving was by a driver, who crossed 100. So car gives around 15 kmpl. When I drive, I stay below 90, and get 18+.

In city, I get 12-13 if I do a 10km+ drive. But I need to do a lot of short drives (2-4km). So that reduces the mileage I get.

Bangalore-Noida road trip in my Toyota Camry: Got a mileage of 21 km/l

We drove in Eco mode and used cruise control for the most parts.

BHPian anvay recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Completed a Bangalore-Noida road trip in my Toyota Camry Hybrid over the extended weekend (Fri-Sat-Sun):

  • Total Distance covered: Approx 2,350 km. Drove a little (~150km) inside Hyderabad to meet with some cousins.
  • Average mileage for the whole trip: 20.9 km/l. Mostly in Eco mode. In case of starting from a standstill and the cabin needing extra cooling, we switched to normal mode.
  • Used regular petrol. Refuelling in Hyderabad and Jhansi.
  • For most of the journey, we were running at cruise control of 105 - 115 km/h, depending on road conditions.
  • Loved the AC. Even after 1200 km in a day with just two drivers. We had the stamina for more km. In the interest of safety and not driving at night, we stopped.
  • Stock headlights are brilliant for night driving.
  • No Scraping along the route at all. The ground clearance is more than enough.
  • Cooled storage in the central armrest was big enough and effective enough to cool 2 water/cold drink bottles 2 cans of red bull and some fruits.
  • For best mileage, use cruise control for stopping as well till 30 km/h. The brakes are not too strong in that mode, but if you can anticipate from a distance, you can gain 1 km/l easily over there.

Real world fuel efficiency of the Toyota Camry Hybrid: My observations

There was hardly any traffic at 7 am and no traffic lights, so the Hybrid was able to work at full efficiency.

Here is a the magic of a hybrid.

This morning, the trip reading on my Toyota Camry Hybrid - 4.7 kms @ 30.2 kmpl.

There was hardly any traffic at 7 am and no traffic lights, so the hybrid was able to work at full efficiency. Did 4.7 kms in 11 minutes, hence was not very slow either.

Typically, the average mileage I get is:

  • Bangalore City - 13-14 kmpl.
  • Trip to Bangalore Airport - 20-21 kmpl ( 80 kmph speed limit).
  • Outstation - 18-19 kmpl (speeds of around 110 kmph).

Real-world fuel efficiency figures of my Mahindra XUV700 MX petrol

The acceleration is better than on my Tata Harrier diesel, which was purchased around the same time as this.

BHPian sanmeet recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

We got home XUV700 MX Petrol in the first week of April. I love the bang for the buck spent on this car. Here's a micro review below:

Let's talk about the mileage first:

I keep track of petrol and odometer readings for all my vehicles on a google spreadsheet, so the reading is quite accurate. I use the tank full to tank full method and have consistently got exactly the same mileage figure for the five tank fulls that I have done to date. Summary below:

  • Tank full 1: start 75km
  • Tank full 2: 575km, 46.14-litres, 10.84km/l
  • Tank full 3: 1050km, 44.47-litres, 10.68km/l
  • Tank full 4: 1575km, 47.84-litres, 10.97km/l
  • Tank full 5: 2101km, 50.22-litres, 10.47km/l

Overall: 10.74 km/l (Total distance/petrol-litres)

My daily commute of 110 km is 33% on expressways at a constant 100 km/h, 40% on low traffic roads with speeds of 40 - 80 km/h, and balance 33% on narrow roads with intermittent traffic and speed ranging from 0- 40 km/h

The gear lever occasionally gives hard vibrations while shifting as others have mentioned.

The acceleration is very sweet, especially compared to the automatic (Diesel) Tata Harrier that I had bought along with this car.

The whole package is quite good but the things that I miss most are apple car play & navigation. I would be instaling alloy wheels in a week or so. Already installed rearview camera, sidestep, rearguard, and scuff plate logo light from the showroom.

The rear camera shows grainy video on the screen which is a limitation of either camera or display resolution. Also, the reverse navigation lines do not move with the steering turn and keep straight. Other accessories are good. I highly recommend buying the car cover from Mahindra as it has a perfect fitting. I also got 7D mats from elsewhere.

Currently, I am getting TPU & paint protection film done on the car. I got that done on my Harrier last month and feel that is a good investment for preserving the paint.

That's all for now, hopefully, I will find time to write a detailed review in the near future.

Hyundai Alcazar diesel AT fuel efficiency after completing 2000 km

Moderate traffic on city roads I get 16-18km/l and on the worst bumper-bumper traffic days it is 7-8km/l.

BHPian Naetik30 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

The 'Kitna Deti Hai' update:

So 2000kms up on the car in about 20+ days. And here is the mileage update.

Last weekend was stuck in multiple jams on a 10km drive from Jayanagar 4th block to Bannerghatta Road. What should have taken 20 minutes, took more than an hour and here is what I got.

On my regular commute to work from Bannerghatta road to Whitefield in the mornings, I get a pretty good 17-18kmpl.

On a pure highway drive of 20+ km (mostly at 100km/h), got an awesome number. This was a personal mileage record.

So overall, highways are 20+km/l easily. Moderate traffic on city roads I get 16-18km/l and on the worst bumper-bumper traffic days it is 7-8km/l. As expected, on longer runs of 20+ km I always tend to get better mileage.

Also, got a chance to check out the luggage carrying capacity of the car/crossover/SUV/whatever. Got bought my son a cycle in my hometown during the lockdown-WFH days. Was considering disposing of it there and buying a new one in BLR. But turned out folks won't even take it if given for free. So, decided to ship to BLR by bus (and for a measly INR 400, it turned out to be a great deal). It arrived on Saturday and went to pick it up in the evening at Electronics city.

First, tumbled down the 3rd and 2nd rows and double covered the area with an old carpet and an old bedsheet. Was able to easily fit in the cycle and had spare space for a couple more.
