According to a leaked brochure, the MG ZS EV is likely to be offered in two variants - Excite and Exclusive.

On the outside, the car is likely to get 17-inch machined alloy wheels, projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, glowing logo, roof rails and a spoiler.

Inside, it gets leather seats with a leather wrapped steering wheel and a 3.5-inch MID. The Exclusive trim gets a 6-way power adjustable driver seat, panoramic sunroof, rain-sensing wipers and a PM 2.5 filter. Features like push button start stop with Smart Entry, 3-level Kinetic Energy Recovery System, cruise control, auto headlamps with follow me home function, air-conditioning and power adjustable ORVMs are standard.

Both variants get an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. While the the Exclusive trim gets the i-smart EV 2.0 Connected car features, it misses out on Android Auto and Apple Carplay. It is expected to be added later. The Excite trim does get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The MG ZS EV comes with 6 airbags, ESC, ABS with EBD and brake assist, hill start assist, hill descent control and tyre pressure monitoring system as standard. It gets rear parking sensors with camera, pedestrian warning system, front and rear seat belt reminder and ISOFIX, while heated ORVMs are available on the Exclusive trim.

MG ZS EV bookings to open on December 21

According to a media report, MG Motor India will start accepting bookings for the all-electric ZS from December 21, 2019. Prices are expected to be announced in January 2020.

The MG ZS EV is based on the MG ZS SUV. It can seat up to 5 people and comes with an electric motor that has an output of 141 BHP and 353 Nm. It is powered by a 44.5 kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery that offers a claimed maximum range of 340 km on a single charge. According to MG, the battery can be recharged to 80% of its capacity within 50 minutes using a 50 kW DC fast charger. A 7.4 kW AC home charger can recharge the battery in 6-8 hours. The car comes with three driving modes with three levels of regenerative braking.

Initially, the electric SUV will be sold in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Ahmedabad.

MG ZS EV scores 5 stars in Euro NCAP crash test

The MG ZS EV has received 5 stars in crash tests conducted by Euro NCAP. It was awarded 34.5 points for adult occupant safety and 41.7 points for child occupant safety.

The car offered good protection of the knees and femurs of both the driver and passenger in the frontal offset test. In the full-width rigid barrier test, protection of the driver was good, while chest protection for rear passenger was found to be weak. Protection to other parts of the body of the rear passenger was found to be good or adequate. In the side barrier impact test, all critical body areas were well protected. In the side pole test, protection of the chest was rated as weak, while that of other body areas was good.

In the frontal offset test, protection of both child occupants was good or adequate. Protection for the neck of the 10 year dummy was found to be marginal. In the side barrier test, protection of all critical body areas was good for both 6 and 10 year dummies.

The test car was equipped with a dual front airbags, side head airbag, side chest airbag and side pelvis airbag, ISOFIX, seat belt reminder and pretensioner. The car also had safety systems like AEB Pedestrian, AEB Cyclist, AEB City, AEB Inter-Urban, Speed Assistance System and Lane Assist System.

India-spec MG ZS EV unveiled

MG has unveiled the India-spec ZS EV. Initially, the electric SUV will be sold in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Ahmedabad.

The MG ZS EV is based on the MG ZS SUV. It can seat up to 5 people and comes with an electric motor that has an output of 141 BHP and 353 Nm. The ZS EV will be offered with the iSmart EV 2.0 infotainment system. It comes with a SIM card and has features such as real-time maps, charging station locator from TomTom, CO2 saver that displays the amount of CO2 saved in real-time, Gaana and Accuweather apps. The infotainment system can also connect to a Wi-Fi network or a mobile hotspot. The ZS EV is also equipped with a PM 2.5 air filter.

The MG ZS EV will be built at MG's Halol plant in Gujarat. Production will commence in December 2019.

MG ZS EV self-drive rental to be available from January 2020

MG has partnered with Lithium Urban Technologies to offer the MG ZS EV on its upcoming self-drive rental platform.

According to Lithium, the electric SUV will be available for customers for inter-city travel and corporate use from January 2020 onwards.

The battery is claimed to offer a maximum range of 300 km on a single charge. It can be recharged to 80% of its capacity in 40 minutes using a 50 kW DC charger or in 7 hours with a 7 kW charger.

MG ZS EV buyers to get free fast charging for limited period

According to a media report, MG ZS EV buyers will get free access to fast charging for a limited period.

MG will be setting up DC fast charging stations at various locations within Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Ahmedabad. Additionally, MG ZS EV buyers will be offered an AC charger with the car. These will be installed by Delta Electronics India.

MG could launch affordable EV in India in 3-4 years

According to a media report, MG is planning to launch an affordable electric vehicle (EV) in India in the next 3-4 years. The carmaker will also set up a battery assembly unit in the country within 2 years.

MG's first electric vehicle in India will be the ZS EV that is scheduled to be launched early next year. It will be followed by the setting up of the battery assembly unit. MG has already committed to invest Rs. 5,000 crore in India by 2025. This does not include the investment that will be required to set up the battery unit.

MG has partnered with Fortum, Delta Electronics India and eChargeBays to set up charging points at customers' residences, dealerships and public places.

Latest spy images of the MG ZS EV give us a peek into its interior.

According to these spy images, the India-spec ZS EV could get all black interiors with fabric upholstery. It gets adjustable rear headrests but may not get a rear centre arm rest. The car has a black dashboard with silver trim and chrome highlights. A large touchscreen infotainment head-unit is mounted in the centre console. A rotary drive mode selector can also be seen in one of the images.

According to a media report, MG is planning to unveil the India-spec ZS EV on December 5, 2019. The electric SUV has now been listed on MG India's website and is expected to go on sale early next year.

MG ZS Electric SUV's first promo video

MG has kicked off a promotional campaign for the upcoming ZS EV. The electric SUV is expected to be launched in December 2019.

MG has released the first promotional video on its Youtube channel. The video features actor Benedict Cumberbatch, who is also the brand ambassador for MG.

The MG ZS measures 4,314 mm in length, 1,809 mm in width, 1,620 in height and has a wheelbase of 2,580-2,589 mm. MG claims that the 52.5 kWh lithium-ion battery powering the ZS EV offers a maximum range of 350-400 km on a single charge.
