MG Motors planning to sell around 2000 to 3000 units of ZS ev per annum in India, might open li-ion battery assembling plant in two years.

"We are aiming to develop the entire ecosystem around electric cars in the country," MG Motor India President and Managing Director Rajeev Chaba told here.

"We are tying up with partners for charging infrastructure, for battery lifecycle management, we are exploring a subscription model for buyers...We are going beyond tokenism," he asserted.

"Look, we are aware EVs are not a mass segment in India as of now. Initially, we are looking at sales of 2,000-3,000 units per annum," he added.

"One thing the companies have to offer is a balance between the appropriate quality and appropriate price," the auto sector veteran said. "Indian consumers will not pay for over-engineered products."

Chaba was reluctant to share specifics ahead of the car's formal launch, but said it will be priced at "around Rs 25 lakh".

"We are also open to setting up a battery assembly plant in India in two years. The plant will cater to the MG ZS EV as well as other products we look to introduce in the country," he added.

At around 25L, MG will have a tough time getting buyers for eZS. It was always believed that ZS will undercut Kona by 2-3L. Kona retails at 23.5L, for MG to make a dent it needs to price the eZS competitively.
Also with impending launch of Nexon EV and XUV300 EV with a predicted price range of 15-17L in 2020, MG has to take a sensible approach to pricing.

I don't think MG will price it on par with the Kona. It'll undercut the Kona by 2-3 lakhs, as per the original plan. MG just doesn't want to reveal it's pricing right now as there are more electric cars slated to be launched.

Autocar: MG ZS ev to get free fast charging for limited period.

Speaking to Autocar India in a recent interview, Rajeev Chaba, president and managing director, MG Motor India, confirmed that buyers of the ZS EV will get access to free DC fast charging for a certain period from the purchase of the vehicle. This will be available at all MG fast-charging locations in the five cities that the ZS EV will be sold in, namely Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad.

As standard, MG will provide an AC charger with the ZS EV. Earlier this year, the manufacturer teamed up with Delta Electronics India, who will install the AC chargers either at the buyer’s home or office, as per their convenience.

MG will bring the ZS EV to India via the CKD (Completely knocked down) route, in order to keep prices competitive. Expected to be around the Rs 22 lakh mark (ex-showroom), the ZS EV will compete with the Hyundai Kona Electric that’s priced at Rs 23.71 lakh. We’ve also reviewed a pre-production model of the ZS EV earlier this year.

SHANGHAI: MG Motor India will bring in an affordable electric vehicle in three to four years as it looks to gain leadership in the country’s EV market space, a top official said. The company, which is set to launch MG ZS EV electric SUV early next year, will also set up a battery assembly unit for electric vehicles sold in the local market within two years.

“We want to be the leading player in the EV space and we have the technology…(and) products,” MG Motor India managing director Rajeev Chaba said. As a first step towards this, the company owned by Chinese firm SAIC Motor, will start assembling ZS EV in the country.

“Then we will (start) battery assembly operations in India, and that should happen hopefully in one to two years’ timeframe,” said Chaba who is also the president of MG Motor India. The investment in the battery assembly unit will be over and above the .`5,000 crore the company has already committed to invest in India by 2025.

It's certainly going to be related to the ZS EV. A soft launch or a teaser perhaps. A full unveil was slated for December but I'm assuming since Tata has advanced the launch of the Nexon, MG doesn't want them to steal its limelight.

this is all it takes from EV manufacturers, provide fast charging at your dealers for every town/district HQ. This would cover for any inter city travel across India, where you are able to charge within an hour and cover distance of around 300km. Hyundai promised it but never delivered. If Tata can follow MG lead then EV revolution will be well underway.

MG will start accepting pre-bookings for ZS EV from its unveiling day i.e. 5th December, 2019. The launch is likely going to be in January 2020.

MG has become a serious player in the EV market. They launch their first EV in the NZ market next month and all the cars scheduled for NZ have already been sold out.

The car will be launched in NZ in Mid 2020. All they've 'sold out' is 50 units, with the sub $50k introductory price extended to 100 more units.

MG ZS is supplied by CATL, which is world's largest battery manufacturer based in China, to answer your question YES, it's coming from China. The other well known supplier is LG Chem and Panasonic.

MG EZS could be made available not just for private sales, but also for commercial applications i.e. taxis or fleets.
