JLR working on 5 new cars including Road Rover EV

According to a media report, Jaguar Land Rover is working on 5 new cars, including 3 new models. The new cars include the Jaguar J-Pace SUV, the electric next-gen Jaguar XJ,the new Defender, the Road Rover EV, and the next-generation Range Rover. The cars are expected to be released by 2022.

All the cars are expected to be based on the company's MLA platform, which supports mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid as well as full electric powertrains, and will get SOTA (software over the air) capability. 14 modules in the car's electrical architecture are expected to be connected to the internet.

The first of these new models will be the Land Rover Defender. It will be offered as a 3-door and as a 5-door and it is expected to come with a 2.0-litre diesel engine. A petrol variant could also be offered. The car could be unveiled by the end of the year and is expected to be launched in India. It will be followed by an all-electric next-generation XJ, which is expected to rival the electric Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the electric BMW 7-Series. It could be revealed in the next 12 months. The XJ could be followed by the J-Pace. The J-Pace could be launched as an all-electric variant and is expected to be placed above the F-Pace in the company's line-up. It could be launched in early 2021.

By late 2021, the company is expected to launch the first all-electric Range Rover called the Road Rover. It could be lower and more aerodynamic than the current Range Rover models and could be positioned between the Evoque and the Velar. It is expected to be followed by the next-generation Range Rover. By 2025, all-electric variants of the Defender and the Range Rover are expected to be launched. Post 2025, all Land Rover models will be electrified.

Jaguar XJ50 launched at Rs. 1.11 crore

Jaguar has launched a special edition of the XJ called the XJ50 to celebrate 50th anniversary of the luxury saloon. It is based on the long wheelbase version and comes with various updates. The XJ50 is priced at Rs. 1.11 crore (ex-showroom).

The XJ50 comes with Autobiography-style front and rear bumpers as well as a chrome radiator grille and gets unique badging on the rear and on the side vents. The car rides on 19-inch wheels. On the inside, the XJ50 features diamond-quilted seats with the Jaguar logo embossed on the headrests and an XJ50 logo on the centre armrest. It gets engraved branding, illuminated treadplates, anodised gearshift paddles and metal pedals. 

The Jaguar XJ50 is available with a 3.0-litre, V6 turbo diesel engine that produces 302 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and peak torque of 689 Nm @ 1,800 rpm. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The Jaguar XJ50 is available in 4 colour options - Fuji White, Santorini Black, Loire Blue and Rosello Red.

Updated Jaguar XJ launched at Rs. 98.03 lakh

The refreshed Jaguar XJ has been launched in India at prices starting from Rs. 98.03 lakh (ex-showroom, pre-octroi Mumbai). The car will be locally assembled in Pune, Maharashtra.

The petrol XJ is powered by a 2.0L, turbocharged engine that makes 237 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and 340 Nm of torque @ 1,750 rpm. It has a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 7.9 seconds. 

The diesel XJ is offered with a 3.0L, turbocharged engine that makes 296 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 700 Nm of torque @ 2,000 rpm. Jaguar claims a 0-100 km/h time of 6.2 seconds.

The new Jaguar XJ will be available in India in the following variants (all-prices ex-showroom, pre-octroi Mumbai), with an 8-speed automatic gearbox equipped as standard:

• XJ 2.0L petrol 'Portfolio': Rs. 99.23 lakh

• XJ 3.0L diesel 'Premium Luxury': Rs. 98.03 lakh 

• XJ 3.0L diesel 'Portfolio': INR 105.42 lakh

Standard features include xenon headlamps with washers & LED DRLs (Portfolio grade gets full LED headlamps with adaptive lighting and auto high-beam assist), a 380W Meridian sound system with an 8-inch touchscreen display and Bluetooth audio streaming (Portfolio grade gets an 825W Meridian sound system), navigation and a 12.3-inch colour TFT-LCD instrument cluster. 

The feature list also includes heated and cooled front and rear seats, 14-way adjustable electric driver and front passenger seats with memory function, 4-way lumbar support and massage function with 5 intensity settings, four-zone climate control and ambient lighting among others.

Safety features include a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), emergency brake assist, front/side/curtain airbags, 360 degree Park Distance Control, a surround camera system and Park Assist. 

Colour options include Polaris White, Rhodium Silver, Ammonite Grey, Dark Sapphire, Odyssey Red, Aurora Red, British Racing Green and Ultimate Black.

The Jaguar XJ rivals cars like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8 and BMW 7-Series.

Refreshed Jaguar XJ revealed

Jaguar has officially unveiled the refreshed XJ. On the surface, alterations to the XJ are not extensive and include full LED headlights, new LED tail lights and oval exhaust finishers. The model also sees the new R-Sport and range topping Autobiography variants join the line-up alongside XJ Luxury, Premium Luxury, Portfolio and XJR.

On the inside, the XJ gets a new InControl Touch Pro infotainment system. Features include door-to-door navigation, Wi-Fi and 1,300W Meridian Digital Reference audio. The Portfolio gains quilted soft-grain leather seats with diamond stitching, embossed headrests, and figured ebony veneer.

The Autobiography variant is only offered with a long wheelbase, and gets chrome front bumper air intakes and 20" Mataiva wheels. On the inside, the Autobiography gets custom insignia, quilted semi-aniline leather seats with contrast stitching, a leather headliner, and illuminated stainless steel scuff-plates, air vents and boot finisher. The new R-Sport variant features a three-piece front splitter, deep side sills, side vents and a rear spoiler. The R-Sport also features 20” Venom wheels.

The new XJ also gets an uprated 3.0L, V6 diesel engine, which now produces 296 BHP and 700 Nm of torque. The 3.0L V6 diesel XJ currently sold in India produces 271 BHP and 600 Nm of torque. Other engine options (depending on the market) will include a 2.0L, 4-cylinder petrol that makes 237 BHP, a 3.0L V6 petrol that makes 335 BHP, along with a 5.0L V8 that makes either 467 BHP, 503 BHP or 542 BHP.

The XJ will be manufactured at Jaguar Land Rover's Castle Bromwich Plant, alongside the F-Type and new XF.

Locally manufactured petrol Jaguar XJ now at Rs.93.24 lakhs

Jaguar has launched a locally manufactured petrol powered version of its flagship saloon - XJ, priced at Rs.93.24 lakhs (ex-showroom Mumbai, pre-octroi).

The car will be powered by an i4 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol motor producing 237 bhp @ 5500 RPM and maximum torque of 340 Nm @ 1750 RPM; mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. For those curious about the mileage, this car manages to return an ARAI certified figure of 9.4 km/l.

This model will be available in the LWB Portfolio trim. As expected out of a car of this class, the XJ comes loaded with features such as electrically adjustable rear seats with massage function in three intensity settings, increased rear headroom, rear seat entertainment with two 25.9 cm (10.2) LCD screens, electric rear side window blinds, soft door close, 825 Watt Meridian surround audio system, LED reading lights in the rear and newly designed business tables in the rear.

Jaguar has been taking steps to price the XJ more competitively and recently had introduced a locally assembled version of the 3.0L diesel XJ sedan to take on the Mercedes S-Class, Audi A8 and the BMW 7-series.

Jaguar launches locally assembled XJ diesel at Rs. 92.1 lakh

British luxury carmaker, Jaguar has launched the locally assembled XJ sedan in India at prices starting from Rs. 92.1 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai, pre octroi). The car is available with a 3.0 litre diesel engine and in two variants - Premium Luxury and Portfolio.

The XJ, Jaguar's largest sedan, is now manufactured at the company's plant at Pune alongside the XF sedan and Land Rover Freelander 2 SUV. The local assembly of the car has helped Jaguar price it considerably lower than the CBU version.

Under the hood of the XJ is a 2993 cc, V6 diesel engine that develops 271 bhp @ 4000 rpm and 600 Nm of torque @ 2000 rpm. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels through an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

For 2014, Jaguar has given the XJ additional equipment like upgraded rear seats with three massage functions, electric side window blinds, LED reading lights, a pair of 10.2-inch screens for rear seat entertainment and a new rear business table. Jaguar claims that it has increased headroom in the rear of the car as well.

The Jaguar XJ is positioned against the Audi A8, BMW 7-Series and the segment-leading Mercedes-Benz S Class.

Jaguar XJ Ultimate arrives in India

The Jaguar XJ Ultimate goes on sale in India today. 

Based on the long-wheelbase XJ, interior changes applied to the Ultimate focus on rear seat passengers. A full-length, leather-trimmed center console separates the two individual rear seats which feature electric adjustment, ventilation, massage and lumbar functions. A table, machined from solid aluminium, rises up from the center console at the touch of a button to provide a working area. There are also two iPads with wireless keyboards housed in leather docks at the rear of the front seats. The "seth" positioned behind the front passenger seat has a stow-away button that automatically powers the empty chair forward, to increase legroom.

The full rear seat package includes twin 8” screens, wireless headphones and a 20-speaker in-car-entertainment system developed by Meridian. The XJ Ultimate undergoes revisions to its air suspension to optimise rear ride comfort. 

Exterior changes are limited to chromed lower air intakes, stainless steel exhaust finishers, dual-surfaced 20” alloy wheels and the ‘Ultimate’ badge. 

The XJ Ultimate is available with Jaguar’s 5.0-liter V8 supercharged petrol (503 BHP) and the more practical 3.0-liter V6 turbocharged diesel (271 BHP), both mated to an eight-speed transmission.
