I love dogs, and had the same question running in my head time to time. They are really so adorable, mischievous and faithful.

I know it will be a hard time for you and your family, but I would suggest you to get another one. It will heal your loss quickly. There are lots of puppies out there looking for homes, it would be great if you can take home one. I guess, Laara would be happy too if you shelter one. Ofcourse, she cant be replaced. Its just a continuation.

Take care.

PS: Bad timing with my aquarium snaps

Re: Team-BHPians and their pets

Well I am away from the town for around 2 weeks and don't have a lot of friends here in Pune.

Keeping Zozo at an Animal Shelter. He has never stayed away from home and me. Don't know how he will react to the new place. :(

Ah! Mine never adjusted to a shelter. Dropped her there just once and she went berserk. So she travels with me when I'm alone, or my family takes turns staying home with her

Go takes away those whom he loves most, First.
I lost a 1.5 year old Weimaraner-Alsatian Cross like this. He was a huge dog and bigger than both his parents.
One day he had his lunch, went upstairs, lay down on his bed and never woke up. The dog said he had grown too fast and his heart couldn't keep up with his growth.
His dad, the Alsatian is now getting on 9 years and still with me and his mother the Weimaraner, passed on 5 years back on account of kidney failure.
Its terrible to lose ones pets, but, it is a fact of life that we need to deal with.

And the worst part is that none of my family members were at home when this happened :(

She was totally fine in the morning before my parents left for Delhi . As playful and cheerful as she would be on any other day .She was 6 years old but as active as any 2 year old labra .
She even had her full serving of food in the morning , and then after about an hour when she was back on her bed , all of a sudden she cried three times and that was it .

These incidents really leave one shaken to the core .

Lots of dogs are having kidney problems. I feel that this is due to the diet. Feed them more than recommended and they develop a lot of problems.

When I got my Lab, I went religiously through all the articles on the net, and discovered that the quantity is maximum at around 6 months and there after it is better to slowly reduce. A lot of meat and less of carbohydrates helps in reducing the bulk, which is the major cause of fatalities, and at the same time keeps the dog satisfied. With controlled diet my Lab is slim and trim and full of energy.

Re: Team-BHPians and their pets

Uploading some pictures of my best companion, my 7 month old golden retriever - Auric

Goldens are by far the most subtle and well behaved breed i have ever seen, they are almost like a cow, he doesnt bark on strangers, behaves nicely with every one who comes to our place, when its time for susu or potty break he barks so we can take him downstairs. He is the best thing that has happened to me, well some times he occupies my bed as well and i have to push him to one side. They cant do security but thats not why i chose him, we have security guards for that.

Amazing how a 1.5 kg pup becomes a hefty 30 kg dog in just no time, the first pic is of my mom holding him on his day 1

Nice tank.
You may add one or two more pairs but keep the size similar or slightly bigger. Avoid adding Gold Fishes (any types) in this tank.
You can get silver sharks or Red tails or Koi.

Also try poutting some more "hiding spot" kind of stones or decorations.

I have avoided gold fishes. I already have the red tail (along with its albino counterpart) and Koi. Havent got any silver sharks in here.

I have got a shark species, but I dont know which ones they are. They look more like shark catfish, but its not as huge as those. They are very very hyperactive and keeps swimming right and left ALL the time without any break!

As for hiding spots, I have plastic plants and a sunken ship. The sunken ship has cavities and its the favourite of the sucker fish that I have.

Re: Team-BHPians and their pets

Too much meat and other proteins are the cause of kidney trouble.
It is a good practice to test the dogs blood and WBC count now and then - this is a good indicator if there is kidney trouble.

Too much food is mostly the problem, rather than too much meat. If a dog is fully satisfied, they will eat less, while if the food is not very satisfying, they will tend to gorge them selves, given a chance to. All the dogs I know of, who had kidney problems, were fed very little meat. The bulk of their diet was rice or chapatis. I have observed my Lab, and when he has meat only, he does not hanker for more food, while when he is given rice (that is usual diet), he is always ready for more helpings.

Lots of bulk - carbohydrates requires much more effort on the digestive system, while at the same time giving very little satisfaction. That is why dogs whose major intake is carbohydrates, tend to get bulky and suffer from a host of diseases at the later stage of life. In conclusion, if you control the intake, the dog will remain healthy.

Re: Team-BHPians and their pets

Well, she's not really my pet, but she's a friend who comes to greet me without fail; when I park my motorcycle for my morning walk daily. I don't know how, but she's there everyday.

She lives somewhere near Law college.

I wish more of my friends were as pretty as she is!

She seems to enjoy posing for the pictures too.
