techno and cyclops, why dont you both get together on some weekend and take up a DIY project. i think your altos dont have the trim in boot. so that work will be saved.

well if not then Shettys maruti garage is a good workshop. especially for maruti. however supervision might be required as i dont think they might have installed this before.

else DILIP car garage near our place will also do. he has a good mechanic named bablu.

Hmm Called Sai Service & he plainly refused.

He asked me to call @ 9923208045 & talk to Mr Bharat who has shop in Nana Peth.

I have given my order to him, he says it would take around 10 days.

I have asked him to call me once he gets these items. Lets see.

they have been strictly ordered no counter sales at all. thats why they refused. and i too think its a better policy. yes when i visited the nana peth shop he just had the cable and nothing else. he asked me to wait for 8 days but i was to impatient and went ahead and shelled out almost double amount for everything.

Alright. I got the fitting done at Shetty's Maruti Service yesterday.

There was a small goof-up in the parts I got, the cable given to me was for the Fuel Lid Opener instead of Boot. Luckily it was available with Shetty's, so got it exchanged from them.

The screws holding the striker for the latch were very hard to open (Amit also faced this) and the mechanic used a rather crude way to open em, using a hammer and chisel!

The entire fitting took around an hour to complete and the seats need not be removed for doing the installation. The new striker has to be aligned properly in order for the boot to open/close properly.

Now at the flick of the lever, the boot opens like a charm..!

I guess the part no. I quoted was correct, was taken from the invoice. But the actual package they gave was some other part no. which even I missed out.

Shetty's is close to Rohan Nilay or Prism Apts. if you know. When you come straight from Bremen square towards Siddarth Nagar (Aundh Gaon), there is a small lane on the right just before the octroi post and the bridge (bhide?) which leads you towards Sanghavi/Spicer College, Shetty's is on this road. Its a big garage, difficult to miss out.

EDIT - Cyclop the part number you got is different from what we can see in badboyscout's pictues.

The part number for Cable is 83350M79G20

Okay. Then maybe I had ordered and got a wrong part. Now I dont even have the packaging from where I could confirm the part no.

But the cable is quite common spare, you can find it someplace relatively easy (as I got). The striker and lever are rare and have to be ordered.

EDIT: Hey Techno, if you could edit my post wherein I had quoted the part nos. & price (#116) and put the correct part no. there, it would save people from getting confused..

Got a place in Mumbai. Enquired at Sai Service in Borivali. I think they are the only dealers this side who sell the parts over the counter.

Just one query, I suppose these part numbers are standard for the whole country? I called up a OEM MUL parts dealer here and he said that there is no such part number?
