Thanks for this info. Did you have to change only the glass or even the Digitizer? one of my iphone 4s has gone dark with occassional streaks visible. I think I need to change the visualizer too. I will check out Fathima plaza for this.
How is the touch sensitivity after this change?

Guys, all of you wary of buying iPhone online, the warranty and repairs are entertained by Apple India Service centres. I have had first hand experience so just thought of clarifying.

Per my recent reads (and also per one of my colleague who owned a prev gen iphone and had replaced the screen front glass alone for 500 odd), from 4 onwards digitiser and display come as a set and have to be replaced as a set. I was keen to check the change in sensitivity, glad nothing found to my like, even with the new tempered glass over it. Moreover this has better clarity than previous experience with matte guard on.

That's a very good price. I recently got the glass and touchpad changed. The shop guy asked if I wanted an original or a China make. I took the original and it costed 6k. The China one was half the price. It's my personal choice that's all.

Before replacing I went to the official iPhone repair shop. They asked for 22k and would give me a brand new phone as mine was still under warranty.

May I know which city Fathima plaza is in? Thank you.

One small thing. At some places you get the lightning plug alone without the wire. I got one for below 100. It slides into the normal android charger end point.

The advantage is you can then use any android charger for your phone. Just make sure the output of the charger is 1 mA. You can use any charger of course but if it's below 1 mA the phone would take a long time to recharge.

Chennai, but didn't expect it to be cheap at this place. Usually is cheaper still at the electronics market at Ritchie st.

Did you try a hard reset? Home button + on/off switch for some seconds will reset the phone without deleting anything. This will clean up a lot of junk.
Then try network reset. That cleans up some stuff.

Store all your photos and videos on some cloud space iCloud or others. Else put it all on Dropbox or google drive. Then delete every single photo and video on your phone. That will help.

Next go to general > usage. Here 2 things. First go to battery usage. This will tell you when apps are using the most battery. Delete those if you wish to.

Then in the same same usage place go to manage storage. Here you will see which apps are using max space. Get rid of the ones you can manage without.

Under main settings page click on safari. Scroll down. Clear history and website data.

Restart phone.

Should be a bit faster.

If not then go to settings>general very last option reset.

You can try reset all settings.

I assume you've stopped background refresh and location sharing.

Do you have iOS 8.x? Then in your cellular setting use only 2g or 3G. Depending on where you live LTE may not be available at all. So the phone will keep on searching for LTE and use up battery and seem slow.

If you do a lot of browsing it makes sense to buy a 4g LTE dongle. Or whatever it's called. Though data cost is the same as cellular, it will save your battery and make phone faster since that is exclusively for internet.

Using cellular for internet is a bit slow since voice and SMS also goes through same pipe.

I can't think of anything else.

ya Ritchie normally works out cheaper, and if u know a known contact, can prevent some rip offs too. My friend tried to connect a known Ritchie ph num to get his quote, but he was out of town so could not really compare prices before going to this shop.
This person at Fathima told, for iphones especially 4/4s etc, display and few other replacements components prices have come out cheaper in recent years than other similar brand phones, mainly due to the manufacturing scale (read higher bulk) at china of these spares. :clap

Re: The iPhone Thread

Hello guys this is my first post in a non automobile thread and the reason is my iPhone 6 plus. Its been 9 months of bliss with my phone and love it loads. However last month or so the mute button is acting funny. Many times even after muting the ringer comes on then fluctuates to off and this happens repeatedly till it settles to any one position I.e on screen not the physical button which itself is not loose/ wobbly. Took it to the maple center but it worked flawless there. Any one else also faced this

I'm using an app called Flo (link). Although it is meant to score your driving style, it also serves as a logger since you can take a look at individual trips in a map, like here:

It also notes the distance traveled but not average/max speed. The only downside of this app is that you must manually start a trip on the app that you would like to log.

There is another app that I tried for this job, MileCatcher, that automatically starts logging a trip when it detects you are driving in your car.

The issue i have faced on my 6 plus is that sometimes when I silence it with the physical button, and un-silence it later, it continues to remain in silent mode and I have to reboot the phone for it to actually ring. Realized only when I started noticing missed calls, though the phone had been in my possession or near me.

Similar to my iPhone issue only yours gets silenced mine goes on ring. You may not need to reboot, just flip the switch a few times and see if it works. As long as the button isn't wobbly I assume it's a loose contact issue. If a software issue maybe it gets resolved with iOS 9.

Did water or sweat enter the charge or aux port of your phone? This sometimes happens due to that.

What you need to do is dry the phone ports and then put it to charge so that it heats up. And it will start working.

No M5 doesn't seem to be I clean my fone quite regularly seems to be an internal loose contact issue. Will however try it out immediately after charging and revert about changes if any

Re: The iPhone Thread

This is quite common. It usually happens when you put a non Apple screen guard or done by a bad technician.

There is a proximity sensor on the phone. It's the black dot to the left of the ear piece. Usually this gets messed up. You may find the phone going to mute while talking or the speaker turning on. It's all due to this sensor getting blocked.

Solution is to get remove the screen guard and get a proper one fixed at an apple auth store.
