An update on hissgate.

I got my phone back from the service center today. The issue still persists.

No solution has been offered yet since the service center people were unable to reproduce the issue in front of Apple India(I am not sure whether it was Apple India or USA). Basically they (Apple India/USA) wanted the service center people to send a video of the hissing/cracking sound to ascertain whether there was any issue. Which the service center didn't do since they believed that the noise would not be audible in a video.

I found this rather strange because while recording a video, the hissing/cracking noise from the processor gets picked by the microphone. Shot a video at the service center itself and shared it with the service center person. The service center will be forwarding the video to Apple. Let's see what solution they have to offer this time.

I find it extremely strange that although Apple acknowledges the issue but refuses to do anything about it.

I find this extremely ridiculous and infuriating! You should insist they change the piece. The hissing has not reoccurred on my phone again, am keeping an eye open for that.

There seems to be a problem with the iPhone exploding as well.

Lets see how all this develops.

Cheers

Re: The iPhone Thread

iPhone7 Issues update: There are two issues which are being discussed presently

1) Iphone7 32GB vs 128 GB Write speeds - Link here
Quote:
In the video Hilsenteger reveals the entry level 32GB iPhone 7 delivers dramatically worse performance than both the 128GB and 256GB models – and his test results are so significant they may change your purchase plans or even motivate you to exchange your 32GB model.
2) IPhone7 Intel vs Qualcomm Modem LTE performance - Link here

Quote:
Phone testing firm Cellular Insights put both versions of the iPhone 7 through a battery of tests designed to measure how well the two modems connected to a wireless network at varying signal strengths. The results showed that, nearly across the board, the iPhone 7 with the Qualcomm modem made stronger connections to the network that the Intel-toting model. On average, the Qualcomm chip outperformed the Intel chip by 30%. At the extreme, in the weakest signal simulation, the Qualcomm chip performed 75% better.

Unfortunately, looks like all the iphone models sold in India are with Intel model based on the SKU variant. It would make sense for getting an unlocked 128/256GB from US Apple store to mitigate both the problems.

Will the intel chip affect us in India ? I am not seeing any speed issue with my Vodafone 4g in my 32gb 7. Also the write speed issue, will the effects be noticeable? I am still not getting it.

Please refer to the plot in this link
1) If the signal strength is good >-95dBm, then both models have comparable performance.
2) Once the signal strength starts degrading (i.e. moving away from base-station), the drop in throughput is significant in Intel modem than the other one.

The failure may not be obvious to the end-user in case (1), but noticeable in case (2). Let me know if you have further questions.

Re: The iPhone Thread

Just in case someone wants to check

Model A1660 and Model A1661 means they have a Qualcomm modem.
Model A1778 and Model A1784 are equipped with an Intel modem.

Entire India gets the intel based one. On the other hand, my 1 day old 7 has gps problems with mobile data on. Looks like a software issue,as some users in the other forums reported that the issue has been fixed in the iOS beta

Re: The iPhone Thread

Anyone experiencing camera freeze problems on IPhone? It is there on my IPhone 6S and my fiance’s IPhone 7. One you click on the camera, it freezes for a good 40-50 seconds. I usually have to go back to the home screen and again open the camera app – anybody else facing this issue?

Happened once, when i was on 10.0.2, now updated to 10.0.3 and no issues till now. So this seems to be a software glitch which apple should be addressing with a software update.

Its happening with my 7 plus too, Its a software issue and apple would be fixing it in the next update along with several other bugs,

Honestly after getting the 7 plus i expected a bug free experience, Still no sight of that, Came across 5-6 bugs in the phone which is really annoying, Specially after spending 80 grands on a phone! But well its an amazing phone no doubt, And after a couple of more software updates its going to get better.

Re: The iPhone Thread

@Jaggu: are you in the insider program? Mine says 10.0.2 is the latest.
Also in today's paper there was an article stating that after the note 7 fiasco, Apple is set to become the number 1 seller.

Re: The iPhone Thread

As per attached article all iPhone 7 to be sold in India are with Qualcomm chip.

I am guessing if Intel units are making there way into Indian market then these are not part of Apple official supply chain for our country and instead imported units.
