We have Daikin split at office using them for the past four years, fast cooling, but i guess 2-3 servicing is a must to keep them at their optimum performance.

I have an onida split at home, cheap, moderate cooling (good enough for my family), but many peple is in the view of being away from onida. i have been using it for five months now, no issues yet.

the hitachi split acs at home are into their 5th year still going strong

I had a feeling I was repeating myself <Blush>

But what you say makes the actual cost of the more expensive unit entirely worthwhile.

Order of preference should be

Samsung
Hitachi (local a/c dealer can provide service. Warranty is a different issue)
Whirlpool
LG

Godrej No idea where the machines are built or imported from so cannot rank the same.

Never buy Bluestar or Carrier if you are spending your own money.

spoke with videocon guys yesterday, as per them they have hired a van which makes repairs at your home & if the parts aren't replaced or its not working a new product will be delivered in 15 days.

Videocon makes some good machines, especially the one where they have copied an old model of panasonic. It can be identified by the way the condenser and the evaporator fins are curved at an angle of 90 degree instead of being simply straight. This model is available in a fake wood finish which looks quite good. Over the years the front panel may have been changed but the typical construction of fins should have remained. I have this machine in our guest room, 10 years old now and apart from an increase in the operating noise there never has been any other complaint. Do ensure that the offer is backed by the company and not just from the dealer.

@Edsel Rulez!

The quadracool Hitachi with 2 motors that you have is the quietest window machine on offer and that is primarily what the two motors are there for. The increase in efficiency is an added benefit. Great choice!

Can someone kindly let me know how to insert multiple quotes in a single reply/message.

That is admirable, but 15 days???. Consider what you bought an AC for and those 15 days may cause a buyer to depart for the next world before the replacement arrives in this.

You know the guy and service for the other option is bad in your area, I think you have the answer right there. Practically speaking, air con service is not rocket science and literally anyone can do it. The most important part is the installation whether for window or split. If your install is done well you are set for a long cool innings. In Bombay and Delhi people are buying imported a/cs by the hundreds without any company back up and getting them installed by local a/c wallahs. Also in an a/c there is not much that can go wrong that cannot be taken care of by the local guys.

I am travelling across Jharkhand these days and have noticed Videocon showrooms looking all freshly done up. Maybe the company is becoming aggressive. I will try and visit one of the dealers tomorrow evening after work and see what is on offer. By the way have you checked out Godrej?

In my previous reply I presumed that you were looking for a window a/c, kindly let me know if that is correct or should we be looking at splits, also if you could let us know your budget it would help find the correct machine.
