Re: The Windows Phone Thread

And finally, almost 50 days after giving my Lumia 720 for repair, I received a shiny(matte black, actually) new Lumia 730 this weekend as a replacement for no extra cost.

I have ordered a Hybrid Kickstand Case and a Nillkin Tempered Glass screen guard, post receipt of which, I will start using the phone.

So, I have a Capdase Soft Jacket(black), a new, unused Tempered Glass Screen guard and also a new, unused Gloss finish screen guard for the Lumia 720 to give away in Bangalore. Else, I shall ship them at your cost.

Can I get the tempered glass protector?

I got a tempered glass protector for my dads 730 but it didn't fit the curves of the screen for which I was refunded the money. If the Nillkin fits well, do let us know so that I shall order one.

The one I am giving away is for the Lumia 720, if that is what you were referring to, by all means, it's all yours.

This might be an issue with the Nillkin one as well.

Read the reviews here: http://www.amazon.in/Nillkin-Tempere...owViewpoints=1

I will receive the Screen Guard by this Friday. Hope it fits well. *fingers crossed*

Re: The Windows Phone Thread

Well, I got the screen guard today.

Fitting it was very, very straightforward.

But what I ended up with were circular rings of air bubbles on the left side of the tempered glass. Apart from that, it was a good fit. Only issue being, you'll need to fit it right at the edges of the screen as the screen guard can accommodate just the screen and not an mm more. So margin for error is quite low.

Since the circular rings were a dealbreaker for me for something that cost me Rs. 600 almost, I have filed a return with Amazon. And will be trying again soon.

That said, is it safe to use the phone without a screen guard?

Noticed this in my friend's iphone 6+ too. The tempered glass barely covers the actual screen. An eyesore it is.

I used to cover all my screen with screen guards, but I eventually peeled them away. Now both my phones plus my wife's OPO do not have screen guards, and I peeled away my ipad's screen guard last week. It is glorious to look at the naked screens.

BTW, make sure you don't drop the phone.

My mother dropped dads 730 and broke its naked screen. Thanks to insurance, the repairs were paid for. Regarding whether a screen guard would have worked in this scenario or not I am unsure. But at least if you have the habit of keeping hard objects with your phone in the same pocket, you better buy a guard. As for me, nothing else sits in pocket with my phone.

Yet I do have a shatter proof screen guard on my 925. This isnt the tempered glass one but is thick and has lasted longer than the normal ones which used to get scratched and the whole screen would look horrible. The material is rubbery in nature and it feels good to touch compared to the other screen guards I have used. I guess the extra money was worth in this case. Just for reference, I used to pay 70 bucks for the normal capdase types screen guard, whereas the shatter proof one cost 499. The tempered glass protector I had got for 730 was 149.

Apparently, dust can scratch the Gorilla Glass! I rubbed my eyes in amazement when I saw that keys and a knife could do nothing.

I rubbed my eyes i amazement when I later read that dust could scratch the mighty gorilla glass!

I've taken the plunge again and bought another Nillkin Tempered Glass for the 730 from eBay this time. The cost was 636 after a coupon. Hope it works this time around!

Gorilla glass do not provide complete protection. My S3 has a small scratch on the glass, but then it is not visible if I don't look hard. I could live with the scratch than looking at it through a scratched Rs 100 plastic paper.

Yes, these glasses are scratch resistant, not scratch proof.

I am dead against the cheap plastic screen protectors. I am all for the tempered glass ones. They offer a far more crisp viewing experience and are far more durable and less prone to scratches than their plastic counterparts.

The tempered glass won't fit properly on the Lumia 730 because the screen is curved very slightly at the edges. I have tried a few tempered glasses from different brands but none fit properly. The only saving grace was that all those were bought at wholesale prices (under Rs. 100 ). I am using a basic Nokia screenguard now and it is serving me well.
Using the Lumia 520 without any screenguard since a month and luckily no scratches till now!

Btw, i remember reading earlier that you had bought extended warranty for your Lumia 720. Where did you buy it from? I need to buy it for my phone too.

The new Nillkin one fit fine. Only issue was, I placed it too high on the screen. The sides are perfect. No issues at all. Overall, I am happy with the tempered glass. Quality is excellent, transparency is good and protects the screen as well.

As for the Extended Warranty, you can get it from your nearest Nokia Care. Else, you can buy it here(once it is back in stock):

Looking to buy a phone for my mom; which is a better option - Lumia 435 or 532? Any major advantage for the latter except for the camera?

Oh is it? Will try the Nillkin one next.

Have registered for a mail when the warranty extension is available. Else will walk in to a service centre and buy it. Seems it is totally worth the money
