Re: The Windows Phone Thread

Hey guys,
My friend yesterday updated his Lumia 630 to Windows 10 Technical Preview version using Windows Insider app. When I tried for the same, My phone, A Lumia 525 is not listed for the same. Any idea when older versions, Like the x20 and x25 series phones will get 10 preview versions?
Also, all of a sudden after using Denim update for two days, my Calender is not showing any events like Birthdays, Meetings etc. Any clue what happened?

Re: The Windows Phone Thread

Finally, Got Denim update on my Lumia 930. But mysteriously 'Hey Cortana' feature is missing. It seems it is not available for India.

I got my denim update on Nokia Lumia 620 last week. Few changes include mobile data connection shortcut on notifications, New home screen folder to group apps, Better clarity Lumia camera etc. I too miss the cortana feature & its related settings since it is not available for India.

My sister has her lumia 1320 on windows 8.1. I tried updating for new firmware, and it says you have the latest update. Is 'Denim' = 8.1?
Please explain!

Denim is still not out for the 1320 according to Microsoft.

It is available in India. You need to select language as English (India) region as India and speech as English (UK).

I do have Cortana working. For 930 and 1520, there is supposed to be 'Hey Cortana' feature for passive listening. This is released with Denim update to US and Europe.

With this feature, you need not press any key to activate Cortana. Just call her

Re: The Windows Phone Thread

Thanks for the information Mr. civic-sense and Mr. radek

I was unable to access the cortana feature because of my selection of English (India) instead of English (UK). I have changed the settings and it woks perfect now. Thanks again

I got a couple of updates yesterday on my HTC 8X (running 8.1 developer preview)

Anybody else received the update or knows what this contains?

Re: The Windows Phone Thread

Using the 730 for the past 3 months and am completely satisfied with the performance of the phone. But a problem still persists. My 520 when connected to the car BT, always notified me when I received a text like "You've got a text from XYZ, should I read it or ignore it?". But the 730 just stays silent while receiving a text. It responds only when I receive a call. Anyone facing similar issues? Attaching the screenshot of related settings.

Re: The Windows Phone Thread

Guys, do windows phones have frequent updates for the OS just like our PCs? Taking up a lot of disk (!) space?

YES and NO. Yes the small updates are frequent and every year there'll be like two major updates, but they are all very well optimised for all the Lumia devices so that space will never be a constrain. And with every update the device will get better and faster unlike in other 'popular ecosystems'.

Two years back when I bought a 520, it did have occasional restarts and app crashes. But with each update the device got more and more solid in terms of performance and now two years down the lane, the fluidity and functionality of the phone is simply impeccable. For the same reason I didn't think twice before going for yet another WP device (Lumia 730) when I got some spare cash to burn

Yes I did and updated without any issues. Some cosmetic changes I see are cortana Icon on the home screen and ability to choose mobile data icon in action center. No other issues so far. Have been running it since yesterday.
