re: Suggestions for printers

I am looking for a cost effective print for about 20-30 copies a week. I need it to be a printer-copier-scanner, all in one. Fax not required. Colour isnt required really, would not mind if it warranted 10-20% extra price. Will mainly be for office documents, etc.

[quote=sathya_j2084;2360360]Hi,

Planning to get a laserjet for home use(avg of 20 prints per week).

Which among Canon/HP/Samsung us a better one.

Canon comes with a full sized toner, HP and Samsung has half sized toner.

Dealer suggests Canon 2900B INR 5650 , HP for INR 4800.

Pls suggest.

Added to this canon's website says it supports only Win98/2000/ME/XP. So doesnt it support Windows XP?

I have personally used and purchased laser printers of various brands such as Canon, Samsung and HP. I found Canon too be the best in terms of glitch free operations and tolerance to daily torture of loads of printing.

I have the Canon LBP2900 in my office still and two of them. I would definitely recommend Canon and at the end of the day its a Japanese brand

LASER SHOT LBP2900 - Laser Printers - Canon India

The 2900B looks like the 2900 itself except for the colour.

Hi,

thanks for ur quick response.

would be helpful if you can say if canon2900b support both WinXP and vista.

Also what is the difference between full size and half sixed toner.

Thanks

The LBP2900 I have supports XP for sure. I have not used Vista on it and will never recommend Vista to anybody anyways. Still, I think it will definitely support Vista. You can try looking around in the drivers section on their website or just ask the dealer to be really sure.

Full size and half sized toners? I haven't heard of this before. I have been using the default size toner that came with the printer. I have never changed the toner size.

re: Suggestions for printers

I'm looking for a print/scan/copy device, probably monochrome laser. Linux drivers is essential. I just looked at the Canon stuff, and found that they seem to offer Linux drivers for the print section only :(

re: Suggestions for printers

Please guide me too

I am currently using a HP Deskjet F4288. Its nice, but its a cartridge supported printer & I need a printer (laser) which can copy (xerox ) as well.

My F4288 will do the duty of scanning, though if pricing differentiation will be less than 2K, I shall dump the F4288.

Just a basic, tough printer which can take abuse well.

Thanks.

re: Suggestions for printers

when buying a printer, pl check how much would the replacement cartridge cost and how long does it last (# of pages) and not just the base price of the printer. This is what finally matters.

re: Suggestions for printers

Anyone know a thing about Samsung 4300 & 3210 Printer, Copier & Scanner units?
The price is in the Rs. 8,500 range.
Any difference in performance as such, my hardware supplier suggests there is only a size difference,

re: Suggestions for printers

I purchased a Samsung 3201 Printer - Copier & Scanner a couple of hours after my last post on this thread. Paid Rs. 8,295 incusive of sales tax.
It seems the 3201 is the slightly more compact replacement to the 4300 which I had mentioned above.
The printer is a simple plug and play with Windows 7, all I have got to do is set the alignment on the left margin, the prints get eaten up fractionally from the left side.
Any suggestions on that?

re: Suggestions for printers

Last week, I bought a HP DeskJet 1000 printer for my second office where I need to print just 8-10 pages in a week.

It costed me Rs.1,650/- and its a good printer for its price.

At home, I use a HP LaserJet M1136 MFP (Printer/Scanner/Copier) which I bought for Rs.9,600/- in October and it is a very good and reliable MFP.
