Yes it was an ICICI card cash back option that was running during that time.

Thank you for the quick reply. Will give it a shot in Nehru Place tomorrow and will order accordingly.

EDIT

I have one more question and that is regarding the enclosure I will need to buy, could you point me in the right direction. Thanks again.

Let me rephrase that. Will I need to buy an enclosure as IIRC the Hdd in the MBP is already smaller than 3.5". I am assuming it is indeed 2.5".

Samsung SSD is same 2.5" as MBP HDD, you just need to swap the tarrox screws from old HDD to SSD. Only a SATA adapter is advised if you want to easy clone the drive. I bought a 2.5" carrier so that i can clone as well as keep the old HDD.

I bought following:

SSD

Enclosure for cloning and keeping old HDD as USB disk

Toolkit which i thought i had misplaced, anyways its cheap so didn't bother.

This video gives step by step guide.

Hey thanks for the video, it made switching the drive a breeze.

I got an Intel530 series 256 GB SDD from Nehru Place for an even 10K complete with a bill and a 5year warranty. The 3+ year old book is flying once again with boot up taking no more than 15 seconds infact less. This has been great upgrade.

This morning got a mail and moments later my pocket was lighter by 3731/- odd bucks having spent the money on

Parallels10 for Mac.

I can now access all of my Windows data without having to reboot.
A nice bit of software to have but be cautious your windows has to be genuine otherwise things can get stuck with repeated requests for reactivation. Surely that there must be a way around but then I am not really bothered about that. Ciao

@Khoj: I don't know if you're aware of a excellent free application called VirtualBox which basically does the exact same thing that Parallels and VMWare do. You might have saved yourself some coin.

Of course, if you're already aware of its existence and have your own justification for buying Parallels, please ignore what I said above.

Thanks and cheers

More of a generic question:

With the MAC at home, do you guys really feel the need for Windows? At least for my home computing requirements never felt the need for Windows. And this has been the case for the last almost 7+ years.

Ampere, you and I may not need to use Windows, but I am sure there are some people who need some applications that only run on Windows. These could be games or CAD applications or simulators or some stupid banking website that still works only on ActiveX or something like that.

It could even be something like, say, MS-Project that they absolutely need to use.

Cheers

re: iBhp - Think Different (Team-BHPians on a Mac)

Bumped into this thread. I am just on the process of deciding on the right SSD to upgrade my HDD on the MacBook Pro 15" late 2011 model. After some discussions on my FB wall, its been down to Samsung 850 Pro 256 or 512. Hope to get things done in a week.

Jaggu has been very helpful on the FB discussion too, thanks for that

re: iBhp - Think Different (Team-BHPians on a Mac)

I have an early 2011 MBP and got myself an intel530 256GB SSD a few pages back and recently moved to a Transcend370 512GB. Now on the look out for a price drop on the CrucialMX200 1TB drive. More may not always be better but I can't seem to stop myself. BTW all of the SSDs above are the latest iterations by their brands.

I got the Samsung 850 Pro 256 GB and it looks perfect for the time being. Since I prefer to store majority of my finished projects on portable drives, 256 seems to meet my present needs. Hope my MBPro runs for another 5 yrs

The HDD 750 GB that was removed from the Macbook is given a new life with the Transcend 2.5 casing, adding one more portable drive to my existing line up.

Jaggu, A noob question. I have been using my MBP for over 2 years now and it has a 256GB hard disk. What you have mentioned here, is that a HD swap or adding an additional disk to the existing setup?

I think thats the Intel's Core-M series on the motherboard. If you see, the power specification is not 100s of watts but under 10W. Its more like the ones we see in Tablet space.
